I'm hoping that lots of fans who go back and try to do this can at least get some perspective on what the fuck went down in 1999 when that was new to the rest of us, and we did not yet have an official subtitled release to fall back on ^_~.I just finished a re-watch of the FUNi dub and it is very awkward going from the UUE dub to the Freeza saga dub.

Is that so rare? I still have the, "I smell death in the air." episode on DVD or something.Eddie wrote:I've been searching all over the internet for that damn Kamekameha line, but I can't find clips from the initial Toonami broadcast. I'm starting to think it's another "I smell death in the air" type of thing.

I actually prefer the TV dub of Saiyan and Freeza saga over the redone stuff on the Remastered or Ultimate Uncut sets. There is better use of the US background music in the TV dubs where as they're almost non existing in the re dubs. I also love TV dub lines like "pop goes the weasel", "ally to good, nightmare to you!" and "so ya wanna dance or fight?' over the meh or generic lines the "accurate" dubs have on DVD.
I'm so glad Funi hasn't tampered with Cell or Boo saga dubs on DVD.

He's probably talking about the first airing of the ocean dub, which had a bunch of references to death and kill in it that were later put back into the Funi redub.SylentEcho wrote:Is that so rare? I still have the, "I smell death in the air." episode on DVD or something.
My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.

Isn't the US broadcast music the same on the season sets? What Up Namek! wrote:There is better use of the US background music in the TV dubs where as they're almost non existing in the re dubs...

Only for the later seasons. The saiyan to freeza saga has redubbed background music if you could call it that because you never hear anything in the background.Metalwario64 wrote:Isn't the US broadcast music the same on the season sets? What Up Namek! wrote:There is better use of the US background music in the TV dubs where as they're almost non existing in the re dubs...

Well, yeah, but that's not just the music. The entire voice cast is replaced, and there are scenes that were previously censored that no longer are, and scenes that had been entirely cut out that are now put back in.

Yeah they replaced the voice cast with a more unemotional, bland attempt at copying the script they had during the Ocean Dub instead of just doing it over again their own way or whatever and i just don't like it. Couldn't they have done a better job with redubbing those sagas?
