Toei on Dragonball Kai
So I just had a chat on facebook with the president of Toei Europe right now, and as expected, they did not give a clear answer, but what they did not deny the possibilty either, and this goes in line with the answer Sabat gave a fan regarding the Kai situation too. I guess it comes down to how much Kai sells internationally.
Me:
can you comment on the dragonball kai situation in japan?
will there be a buu saga...?
many fans want it...
Kanji Kazahaya:
Ha ha ha! It is a really good question. In Japan, we have switched into TORIKO and plan for Buu saga has not fixed yet.

If you wrote that to me I would just assume you're some kid. Maybe if you phrased it differently or capitalized words that needed it, maybe you could have gotten more info...? Don't take this as an attack, I have my own grammar issues. I'm just saying if you wanted them to take you more seriously....
But then again, I really don't know what else they could have told you that you didn't already know.

It's possible that it sounds that way because he's running it through Google Translator...

I also would like to see this discussion, as well as Toei Europe's Facebook page, maybe then I can ask them about the lack of Dragonball in the UK. Sangofe, would you please post the link.

Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
Glad to see some kind of official statement.
I was hoping more for an "Eventually" rather than an "I dunno, maybe".
But I'm satisfied it wasn't a flat out "Never."
Also, if Japan ever gets around to doing it, I'm hoping they hire a new composer to score the series. As much as I love Kikuchi, I'd rather have something new to listen to in Kai.

Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
I was under the impression that the reason the UK doesn't have it yet was because they're going to get the Ocean dub of Kai. Then again, its been ages since we heard any new developments on that front.oXdanXo wrote:I hope they eventually go ahead and do it, they may as well, I really want Kai to carry on so we still get new figures and more video gamesand every now and then there's a "new scene," if they decide not to continue it then I think there won't be a release on UK TV at all.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

President of a multi-million dollar company ... Facebook chatted ... with some random fan ...
I am intrigued, to say the least. Excuse my boldness, but may we see something more than just a (poorly written) transcription?

I doubt we will, it's flopped in Japan, so Ocean will just cut their losses and bin however far they've got.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I was under the impression that the reason the UK doesn't have it yet was because they're going to get the Ocean dub of Kai. It may have flopped in Japan, but it's doing very well over in the States.oXdanXo wrote:I doubt we will, it's flopped in Japan, so Ocean will just cut their losses and bin however far they've got.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I was under the impression that the reason the UK doesn't have it yet was because they're going to get the Ocean dub of Kai. Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
I know that, but it's not like they can take it into the Majin Buu saga, they're left with a limited amount of stuff left, ie the cell games, then it's pretty much over, apart from DVD/Blu Ray releases.TheBlackPaladin wrote:It may have flopped in Japan, but it's doing very well over in the States.
Something just tells me we won't be getting it, we don't get anything good in the UK on the TV anymore, if we did get Kai though I'd be staring at the TV waiting for it to start

Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
Actually, they can. Adult Swim funded a second season of The Big O, 4Kids funded more of Sonic X and Ultimate Muscle...it's not impossible that Funi could pay Toei to make a Buu Saga release.oXdanXo wrote:I know that, but it's not like they can take it into the Majin Buu saga, they're left with a limited amount of stuff left, ie the cell games, then it's pretty much over, apart from DVD/Blu Ray releases.TheBlackPaladin wrote:It may have flopped in Japan, but it's doing very well over in the States.

Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
But Funi look for easy profit, unless the normal Kai DVDs/Blu rays sell extremely well, then I don't think that would happen, besides I thought the liscence for Dragon Ball from Toei was expensive, so wouldn't they charge a lot for doing more Kai, it's not like Power Rangers either where Funi have a lot of merchandise to reason it either, like figures and stuff as they're mostly in Japan. I'd love it if it does happen though.Mewzard wrote:Actually, they can. Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
Even ignoring merchandising, Dragon Ball is still one big cash cow to Funi. The cost of at least partially funding Buu Saga Kai should be offset by a mix of DVD sales, Blu Ray sales, and what money they'd get from Nicktoons and CW for airing their show.

Re: Toei on Dragonball Kai
While it's not completely absurd and there is a precedent for this kind of thing, I don't think anybody should get their hopes up. Yeah, it's possible. And if it does happen I wouldn't necessarily be surprised. But it's probably much more likely Kai is and always will be a 97+1 episode series.

I have had him on my friends list a while now... Why would I be making this up anyway?
Kazahaya:Hi Frank, I have tried to check the status of Dragonbal series in Norway through our agent.
There are some exposurers in Nordics but I am not sore about in Norway.
Me: How much would the license in norway cost?
price per episode? And would you like to eventual have dvd and blu ray releases?
Kazahaya: As we have appointed Plus Licens, we need you to contact them.
Me: Ah, i see.
Kazahaya: If needed, I oculd introduce.
Me: yes please.
Kazahaya: OK.
Me: so any company in norway would need to go through plus licens, and then plus licens go through you?
Kazahaya: Please contact Maria. Maria Örnryd <maria.ornryd@pluslicens.se>
Me: Thanks.
My plan is to go to norwegian tv companies, personally, and try to persuade them to boadcast the series in Norway. For that, i would need to show figures on how popular dragonball has been throughout the world.
Do you have such figures, so that it would make my research easier?
More easy to persuade a tv company if they see figures.
I know it has dropped in Japan, but not in Europe and America.
Kazahaya: As we appont Plus Licens for Nordic, it is there responsiblity. Could you contact with Maria?
Me: Yes, sure.
Me: I am only a fan, but I will do everything i can to get dragonball onto norwegian tv
Kazahaya: THey have acquired some licenss in Eastern Europe and we are very much exciting to expand our dragonball series exposure.
Thank you, Frank.
me: has new countries gotten the license in europe?
Kazahaya: Yes.
Me: do you know anything about the situation in denmark?
me: will they get new dubbed episodes?
me: cool, would you like to give me a list? as a fan i am curious. and i would send it to daizensuu ex, the biggest fansite, and they would report on it.
Kazahaya: It depends on deal conditions.
me: ok. so you cannot say much?
only that we will see new countries with dragonball soon?
Kazahaya: Yes. Again, hate to bother you but please contact Plus Licens as we should respect our agent there.
me: okay, so everything has to go through them?
Kazahaya: Yes. Yes, please!
me: alright.
me: I understand.
PS
can you comment on the dragonball kai situation in japan?
will there be a buu saga...?

Kazahaya: Yes. Ha ha ha! It is a really good question. In Japan, we have switched into TORIKO and plan for Buu saga has not fixed yet.
