People who clearly know nothing about Dragon Ball

Post by Silver Sinspawn » Sat May 14, 2011 5:41 am

This happens to me constantly, how often does it happen to you?:
You're browsing eBay, or another site, in hopes of buying some merch, and you stumble upon someone who clearly has no idea what they're selling?

It's as if they're saying "My child just moved out, and I'm selling all their shit, just buy it"

So, I've decided to start up a thread, about people trying to sell things, and doing so horribly.

Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Here in Brazil, the news broadcasted some robbers, gang members, etc being arrested and someone called the police and made a prank with manga/anime titles

You may not understand what the people are saying, but you will recognize some (bad spoken) names and how serious the pressman is

Was it just me or did that guy really refer to Tenshinhan as "peixe-rã" (frog-fish)?

THIS so much. I think it's becoming something of a meme on online DB communities over here right now, and it's hilariously embarassing.

Also, nice to know that are other Brazilian regular posters here at Daizex. :)

Ages ago I saw a Dragon Ball X One Piece Goku and Luffy figure set that had no bids at 99p with £2 postage, they were boxed, sadly I hadn't got into the figures at that point. They were listed as dragon ball figures 2 men.
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

Hey... It's you again...
Anyway, yeah this totally happened to me at a Charity store. they had DBZ VHS Tapes in the kids items for 20 Pence each (STEAL!). It was among such Tapes as Balamory, and Postman Pat.
I bought the few that were there, since there was actually a good run of episodes. The guy at the counter was like "Aren't you a little old to be watching cartoons?" I gave a smile as if to say "if only you knew about THIS 'cartoon'"

I really hate it when people try to make you feel bad about watching cartoons. I can understand if it's something like Teletubbies, but it's not as if watching Dragon Ball, Wolverine and the X-Men or even SpongeBob Squarepants is going to harm anyone.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having people ask me if I'm too old to be watching cartoons. Dragon Ball is pretty much the only "cartoon" I watch these days. Some people I know think I'm weird for watching "a Japanese cartoon that doesn't make any sense". As they call it.

But who cares, anyway? What right does a stranger have to judge what you watch?

Hell, Dragon Ball isn't nearly as childish as some of the things I watch.

This kind of thing happens to me too. My dad laughs at me for watching DBZ because he thinks its a kids show (if he only saw Roshi...), and this other time when I was like 12 or something in Blockbuster he forced me to not buy anything from the cartoon section because he thought I was "too old" for that stuff.

A shame... My dad watches a ton of animated stuff (he taped Star Blazers and Robotech when he was in college!), and we discovered DBZ together back when I was two. My grandpa, on the other hand, is a different story. He complains about how "they don't make cartoons as good as they used to" and says today's are full of nonsensical violence. Then I watch any old cartoon, and there's ten time more violence than the censors would allow these days. -_-
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.
Don't forget to slow down and enjoy yourself.

I think it may be important to note that Dragon Ball was written for children in mind. I mean I personally don't care what you consider it but for all intents and purposes it was written to be a kids comic book and later a kids cartoon. I don't really think there's anything wrong with enjoying a kids cartoon, there's nothing to be embarrassed about and anyone who judges you for it is kind of a dick in that respect but...I could be wrong!

On topic:

Temple O' Trunks featured a clip of some guy calling into a radio show and telling the DJ Trunks's back story. It appears she ends up buying it due to her lack of knowledge of the show. http://templeotrunks.com/misc/features/index.html

I don't know how to break it to you... but Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z are "kids' shows." It's OK to watch a cartoon, but don't try to justify it by pretending that it's some kind of mature, deep work of particular cultural significance... Just embrace it for what it is and be free enough to not be ashamed by your desire to enjoy it.

/edit.. once again I just posted something that another poster exactly has said.. this is what happens when you forum browse with 2 hours of sleep in you being physically and mentally exhausted. Sigh only 30 more minutes until I'm off shift. Oh well, I don't think I'll delete this one, unlike the other two I did.

Theres a difference between being a kids show, and being a babies show. That's basically what they are trying to make itm out to be.

Eh, not really. You mean in the sense that Power Rangers is a "kid's show" and "Barney and Friends" is a baby's show? Either should be equally embarassing to be seen buying as an adult. Of course, it helps to claim its for your children. Being married helps create that illusion. Buying the stuff around Christmas time? Too easy.

Meh, where all those anime haters! I want to be an anime martyr too! Why nobody laughs at me when I go with my Vegeta fangirl t-shirt?
But seriously. If someone asks me if I'm too old for anything I answer yes and forget about everything, because my brain have better things to remember. My parents don't like cartoons at all and I'm OK about that. As long as we don't hurt anybody we can do whatever we want and others can say their opinions about that. If they do it in inappropriate way it tells everyone about them, not us.
And yes, Dragon Ball is stupid. My life turned better when I admitted that I like it despite this fact.

To be fair, although shonen manga like Dragon Ball is also marketed to small boys, I would say that its mostly marketed to young teenagers, like 10 to 14 or 15 years old.
