When we see him in anime he is only 5, but he behaves like an adult, so his character is already formed.

I don't quite understand what you mean.Rocketman wrote:Of course, the interesting part of this is that Prince Vegeta is also the only one who wasn't raised in Saiyan culture.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Among Saiyans, Vegeta was a special case who didn't care about anyone of his race.

Going by the anime filler scene, Freeza took Vegeta away when he was a child, and raised him under his own care, much to the King's distaste.Piccolo Daimao wrote:I don't quite understand what you mean.Rocketman wrote:Of course, the interesting part of this is that Prince Vegeta is also the only one who wasn't raised in Saiyan culture.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Among Saiyans, Vegeta was a special case who didn't care about anyone of his race.

Well, look at this. We get to see the personalities of two Saiyans raised with/by Saiyans, three if you count Bardock in his special.Piccolo Daimao wrote:I don't quite understand what you mean.Rocketman wrote:Of course, the interesting part of this is that Prince Vegeta is also the only one who wasn't raised in Saiyan culture.
Raditz - Tries really goddamn hard to get his brother back. Even after discovering Goku's low power level, lack of a tail, befriending the humans, brain damage, and Goku arriving with Piccolo and refusing to join him yet again, Raditz still asks Goku if he's sure. Raditz is utterly ruthless afterwards, but that's after Goku has made totally clear he refuses to be a Saiyan.
Nappa - Asks about bringing Raditz back to life even though he's between 4-8x stronger. Looks at Vegeta like "what the fuck, man?" after Vegeta executes the Saibaman. And despite being the oldest Saiyan, doesn't even have an inkling that Vegeta might execute him for losing to Goku.
Bardock - Is enraged over the death of his crew and honors them with the bandana instead of doing the likely Vegeta thing and cursing them for being weak.
I know it kinda sounds like the old 'Saiyans: honor-bound warriors' deal, but I do think the Saiyans had a....I don't want to say brotherhood exactly, but something like it.

I guess you could say that the Saiyans care about their allies in battle. Now thinking about it, Vegeta does seem to act differently than the other Saiyans, but that can be chalked up to him being raised by Freeza. So I guess the Saiyans (other than Vegeta) are what you could call "team players" or something like that when it comes to their allies.Rocketman wrote:*snip*

I doubt if Frieza bothered to raise him in any way. It had to start earlier- he is told to be superior to everyone, his tutor seems to be scared of his 5 years old pupil- not the best way to develop empathy and sense of community.

Re: What kind of person was King Vegeta?
I never got the idea that Vegeta was "raised" by Freeza. Just that Freeza kept him alive so he could continue working for him, like all the other Saiyans did before they died. I just thought that Vegeta was a special case. Vegeta was just a special case. He was the Prince of the Saiyans and had enough strength and potential at such a young age for Freeza to keep him alive when he'd killed the King, and he'd already surpassed the King when he was a kid.Rocketman wrote:Well, look at this. If there need be an explanation for why he was the bastard among bastards, I guess you could say that it was because of his power.
