Vegeta's dialogue in the anime after Trunks' death?
In the manga, Vegeta's reaction to Trunks' death at the hands of Super Perfect Cell is cut and dry. He says "Trunks", and then charges him, out of grief and rage, which he's never done before. In the anime, though, even though Vegeta's clearly shocked by what happened (he might say Trunks' name too, I haven't seen the episode in a while), he goes on this rant about how he should have been the one to beat Cell instead of Goku. What was up with that? Was it some kind of elaborate way of covering up his love for Trunks, or is that really what he was upset about? I doubt the latter option, since this moment is a defining one for Vegeta's character, and having him charge Cell out of pride alone would not only contradict the manga, it would contradict later interactions between him and Trunks.

One of the parts of the anime that I didn't like much myself. It also kinda contradicts what Yamucha says to Trunks later as they're flying home.

Yamcha didn't know why Vegeta charged at Cell. It happened right after Trunks was killed so it was obvious that he's think Vegeta did it to get revenge.
In the Anime, this is how it goes:
Trunks bleeds from the mouth, Yamcha runs towards him and appears shocked at the wound.
Vegeta: "T-Trunks."
They show Goku saying, "Bye Bye everyone." and then Cell saying, "It seems that instead of Goku defeating me, has given me presents. Happy (after he sees Gohan smile)?"
Then they show Gohan saying, "I'm happy I'll get to avenge my father."
Vegeta says, "Gohan" then says, "No! He's not going to be defeated by the low class Kakarrot or his son, it's going to be by me."
I feel this scene tries to show how Gohan wants to avenge his father's death and how Vegeta realizing that he has to fight for others as Gohan's now doing, then decides to attack Cell to avenge Trunks.

So basically, the anime completely fucked with the significant meaning of Vegeta attacking Cell?

That's interesting. In the English dub, Vegeta explains how he regrets treating Trunks the way he did. He blames himself for allowing Cell to harm Trunks. Vegeta goes on by saying, "Cell has crossed me for the last time. He has tricked me in battle, mocked my Saiyan ancestry, but this time he has gone too far. He will pay for what he has done to my son!".
The dub does this scene pretty well. Although, it isn't perfect. I think Gohan's line is something similar to "I'm glad we can finish our fight" instead of avenging Goku.
