Yeah, if he'd actually seen it happen, maybe he could have. It all comes down to whether there really is a minimum power requirement, I guess.

That doesn't seems to apply to Trunks from the future. In fact both Trunks and Goten turned Super Saiyan very easily...

Besides Goten and Trunks would Gohan turn ssj as a kid to? Just because Goku himself became one?

Well, I think the most emotionally painful thing that happened to him as a child was Kuririn being killed by Tambourine, so I'd say that would be what would make him go Super Saiyan. Although I think that Super Saiyan has a power requirement.

Without anyone knowing at that point in the manga that Goku wasn't a human, what would they call the form? It can't be called "super saiyajin" if the characters haven't heard of "saiyajin" yet, and you can't use "super boy" because of DC.

I once cooked up a story involving this, and drew some pictures as well. I had him transform while fighting Piccolo Daimao, after Daimao decides to kill Tenshinhan (which almost happened in the original story). It also happened only for a few seconds, which of course was enough to send Daimao to Hell. Also, Goku never realized he did it. That makes the whole thing better.

Goku was not a Alien at the time when the Manga was being made, so he could never transform. I don't think he was strong enough to transform into a SSj at the time, if he did then he could have beat Piccolo Daimao without that much effort.

I guess when Kuririn was killed by Tambourine would be the best and most obvious choice, but he never saw it happen. The only other thing would be if he just for some reason or another became crazy powerful and transformed, but I don't see that happening to him as a kid.
