Wow, where does that happen? Is it just something they redubbed of Vegeta's but not Goku's?
Yup. Chris redubbed all of his Vegeta lines for the Orange Brick release, which carried over to the Dragon Box. Sean stopped working on the episodes after the UUE versions. All he was dubbing were the video games until they started doing Kai. It sounds terrible because Sean's acting skills weren't anywhere close to where they are today, or were back in 2006, and it unfortunately holds back Chris' performance a bit because he's got to stick with lines that make sense in the context of what Sean recorded in 1998-99.

Oddly, Chris didn't redub Piccolo either, which is a shame since he really should have. Thus, in the parts during the Freeza battle where Piccolo and Vegeta are fighting on the same side, you have the same problem.

Is Chris just getting tired of dubbing for the series? I mean whats the point with many anime fans adopting subs these days.

I don't think that was it. Season 3 Vegeta was designed as an impression of Brian Drummond's Vegeta, which made the voice higher pitched. The voice for Vegeta changed drastically after that. Even toward the end, you can hear later Vegeta starting to creep in. But by redoing it completely in Season 3 and not touching Vegeta in the early part of Season 4, we have a jarring transition again, just like you do at the end of the Season 2 orange brick set where you go from 2006 Sean in one episode to 1999 Sean in the next. Piccolo, by contrast, had a similar voice in 1999 to the one Chris uses for him now. It's noticeably different, but it's not like Vegeta, which could serve as an explanation for the redub.

Chris and Sean seemed really, genuinely enthusiastic about dubbing Kai, which is why I don't think it's that he's not into it anymore. To the contrary, I think he's really into it when "it" entails doing a really good job and delivering a genuinely good product, ala the Kai dub. Watch the interview with the two of them on YouTube talking about Kai. They're not faking their enthusiasm for it for marketing purposes; you really get the sense that now that the series is being handled correctly, their interest has been renewed.

Another note on Season 3. Oddly, they had Linda Young redub some early Freeza stuff to include some swearing. I think they also redubbed all of Krillin's lines and many of Gohan's. But they didn't fix some of the stuff needing fixing! (e.g., Freeza "makes a copy" of Nail's regenerative powers rather than telling him his battle power has decreased substantially; this was probably because Sean voices Nail and he didn't redub anything, though the fix still would have fit.)

Everything.

Nah J/K. I think the main thing I'd like for them to go back and redub is the Specials/Movies. For the most part I enjoyed the dub for GT, and from what I've seen of DB it doesn't really need that bad of a redub.

They should find a way to re-release GT but digitally remove her from all scenes.

I don't think a dude who redubbed all of his lines is getting tired of a show. Diamonds to donuts he likely didn't get paid a lot to do it, either.

Thanks for the explanation. That's crazy!

Funimation really needs to redub the Bardock and Trunks TV Specials. I was watching them again last night and realized how bad the dubbing is and how off the script is.
