Re: Bizarre merchandise time
This thread should be renamed "Bootleg crap".
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Sorry, had to do that.

But really, why do they look like rounded skulls, with x's for eyes and fruity wigs on? Is this referencing something?

I did some snooping and found out they come from a company called Kaws.

Stupid looking trash.
Also, both of those that I posted cost 40,000 yen. (Just under $500)

Whoever would spend $500 on this fucking weird shit is an asshole, because they should put that $500 towards something useful, like cancer research, charity, or world peace.StarRot wrote:(Just under $500)

Re: Bizarre merchandise time
actuallyyyyy gentlemen... kaws is a world renowned street/graffiti artist and his collaborations with clothing companies like supreme (one of my personal faves) are usually instant sell outs and will command several hundred dollars on the aftermarket, and thats for a t-shirt
. Hes also done a ton of collaborations with nike, and other companies. My personal favorite collabs hes done though, is a line of star wars figures. they're pretty crazy looking. I had no idea he had ever done any dragonball art, id actually be pretty into owning those. I can see how some wouldnt like him defacing our favorite characters but, thats exactly what made Kaws famous. Twisting iconic figures and making them his own. I Guess his art isnt for everybody, but growing up with street graffiti being part of my lifestyle, the mans an legend.

If not, they can donate it to me.Rocketman wrote:Is there like a bucket somewhere and when it's full of money the world will be at peace?
How about solving world hunger then? Money should help take care of that!

Well, if you really want them, here’s the links:capsule X nike wrote:id actually be pretty into owning those.
http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h149795447
http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r77110983 Price has been lowered on this one.
I can understand spending that amount on art, I honestly can. God knows I’ve spent ridiculous amounts on original paintings.
It’s not even the style that annoys me. No, what really annoys me is that these seem to be simple traces and he’s merely altered the heads. I also wonder if he’s even got the rights to sell these or any other work he’s done with copyrighted characters.

Re: Bizarre merchandise time
In his early days, he absolutely had no permission. The man started off by unscrewing the plates off the side of bus stops in NYC, taking the huge advertisement prints out, taking them home and adding his signature skull and crossbones or some other design to the art, making it look like it should be there, and THEN sticking it back at the bus stops!!! He really had a thing for Victoria secret adds. Originals that were done back in his days on the street can fetch obscene amounts of money now, because most were torn down and destroyed.
I know he's really into Disney and star wars but I really have no idea if theses dragonball prints are authentic or even actually done by kaws but... I really wouldn't mind having one framed up in my apartment.

Oh come on. Unofficial merch is over half of this thread. Just because bootlegs are stupid doesn't mean we can't poke fun at them!
And here's what I found while being up late and bored. Weee.
