You also talk about, in some older posts, that the translation from Planeta DeAgostini was poor compared to ASA's, but i don't think that way, in some aspects it's even better.
I'm thinking doing a comparison between the 2 editions and post the differences in this topic. What you guys think of that?
Lets hope they don't use those translations, and just use Mr. Satan and Piccolo.

As for your comparison, I would like that. It would be interesting.

I bought Volume 7.

Here are my thoughts:

Pretty solid volume. No noticeable mistakes and all of the title pages are there as well as all the unique art of the Volume (except for the art of Toriyama's comment like usual). It continues to be uncensored and with great quality in the printing, paper and covers. Great volume.

Btw, the cover of Volume 8 has already been revealed:

As far as i'm seeing, this released started good and has gotten better (both in quality and consistency). A comparison to Planeta D'Agostini's release would be interesting for curiosity's sake, since by the time i found out about it it was long gone.

It would've been great to have Toriyama's comments (specially never having read them myself) but at this point, if we do get them, it'll be in a far away maybe possible kanzenban release (it's funny though, how these releases from ASA are closer even in volume size than the other stuff we get)

Personal minor nitpicks include the always present "Ka Me Ha Me....Ah!"
...and the fact that almost every copy at Fnac was damaged in some way (from minor bents on the top, bottom or both parts of the spine to one of them having part of the spine partially torn) so please check that before buying it. It seems it was just Fnac's handling of the volumes, since it was fine everywhere else, but proceed with caution :D

PS: Goku and Arale with switched costumes = Bi-Winning

You can read them on Kanzentai.

http://www.kanzentai.com/tankoubon.php

Just choose what volume you want (for example, Volume 1: http://www.kanzentai.com/tankoubon.php?id=01 ) and on the Toriyama goodies section you have his introduction/comment for that Volume.

My bad for not having checked the Manga Guide yet then, i guess

Thanks so much! Lots of great stuff there, glad to finally being able to read it.
(Still kinda upset it wasn't included on this release, but i can kinda deal with that now lol)

Volume 8 is out.
Awesome paper, no errors, just a misspelled "Ha" in a Kamehame-Ha, as usual. :P

Got it as well, loving it. Seems like this volume is slightly taller, isn't it? (anyone found a fixed volume 2, btw?)

Yup, seems like Kamehame-Ah is gonna be here for the long run! Oh well, no biggie i guess lol. If we get through volume 42 with Kamehame-Ah as our only "complaint", it'll be awesome :D

After a large number of e-mails sent to Leya/ASA costume service, they finally replaced the flawed Volume 2 that i had with a fixed one.
Finally i have the fixed volume 2! :D

Just wanted to get a few things out there for you guys:

- Volume 9 is finally out (rereboy, did you manage to keep track of how many times the listing from mediabooks was removed? lol)

- I bought my volume 9 today at Fnac (Vasco da Gama) and they're giving these bags from Edições ASA that have Dragon Ball on one side and Yu-Gi-Oh on the other.

Picture taken from my cellphone:

Also, thanks to Red Tiger's advice, i sent my volume 2 to Leya and got my fixed volume 2 :D (notice the pretty spine picture lol)

I love that Edições ASA is giving us some cool free swag.
Puto and rereboy will surely remember the first GT run here, where the VHS release of GT came with cool stuff (i.e. Dragon Ball GT cap, t-shirt, etc.)

I also got Volume 9 and a special bag . I don't really care about the bag but its always nice.

My thoughts on Volume 9:

- Almost perfect. All the title pages and unique art are there (excluding the usual) and its completely uncensored (including Bulma's boobs). The paper, print and translation are great. There is only one small mistake in one of text balloons (they switched the correct order of the ballons causing Bulma to say a Yamcha line). That's the only thing I noticed.

Yeah, the bag is just a cool bonus (and for me, a toss-back to the old days where most releases had something extra lol)
rereboy wrote:There is only one small mistake in one of text balloons (they switched the correct order of the ballons causing Bulma to say a Yamcha line)
Is it like the one panel with Tao Pai Pai and Goku's line getting switched, where it's noticable enough to be able to understand how it's supposed to be?
(Tao Pai Pai - "No, you're not!" Goku - "I'm gonna kill you!")

Both Kamehamehas in this volume were written as such *HURRAY*

Flipping through it i wondered.....Bulma's boobs are quite clearly exposed....how were they censured in Viz's version? Very curious about that one lol

The top image is a scan I made from my Vizbigs. The bottom one is from a scanlation I found in the net (its not from the portuguese edition).

As you can see, Viz does its edits very well and they are really non intrusive. However, its still censorship.

I guess if they were gonna go through with it, it was the best way. America needs a kanzenban release....i'll totally support that one if Viz ever goes with it.
I have to wonder though, are the Vizbigs an attempt at replacing a possible kanzenban release?

(slightly off-topic, some Fnac stores seem to carry some french kanzenban volumes, which look great)

EDIT: By the way, i was checking volume 8 of the kanzenban...and Gohan's kamehameha is...pink? Why is that? (still in volume 8, Goku's against pilaf's machines is also pink. Volume 9, Kuririn's is colorless)
I guess i can also tie it in with why does Goku's dogi go from orange to red in the same chapter (kanzenban 9 against Tenshinhan)?

There are two types of coloration in the DB manga: full color (used in part of the first chapter, for example) and red tones (used sometimes, like in that chapter in Gohan's Kamehameha and Goku's gi). And there is the regular black and white.

By the way, we're 2 volumes away from knowing Piccolo's name in this release. :!:

That is correct. But the color in the manga is not very consistent (even in the full color pages) because Toriyama seems to change his mind about the colors he wants to use fairly often.

And we should know Piccolo's name in volume 12, which I guess will be released in August.
