Re: Help Needed on Big Project: Old Era Dragonball Nostalgia
The only problem I can foresee is that probably not a lot of people still around were into Dragonball that far back. I think about 1996-ish is when I first watched it some but it was closer to 1998 or 1999 before it became a huge part of my life.
A good place to start, maybe, is the links that go along with podcast episode 259 (the latest one at this point). -- http://daizex.com/general/podcast/

Re: Help Needed on Big Project: Old Era Dragonball Nostalgia
Quite a few were into it in the early 90s, I started watching it in 95-96, at that point I hadn't ever saw a Dragon Ball Video released in the UK, so I taped everything, as soon as DVD recorders were out I bought one with all my Christmas and Birthday money, then got DVD's, it's only in the past 2-3 years I've actually realised you can import from the US and Japan. There's other people I know that were paying for Fan Subbed VHS's and if I knew they were at the time, then that's where my pocket money would have goneKendamu wrote:The only problem I can foresee is that probably not a lot of people still around were into Dragonball that far back. Many got their start through Toonami. That being said I remember the DBZ cards. Maybe a section on that small craze as well.

The layout needs to be like a generic geocities page.

I'll do research, what do you need exactly? The images of the cards?takarajima wrote:Saimaroimaru,Saimaroimaru wrote:I meant this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Bal ... _Card_Game and its reboot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Bal ... _Card_Game

Ah yes, indeed; I've seen these around quite a bit. They are getting a bit late for use on a site that focuses on the 80's and 90's, but I would be fine with showcasing the ones from the very early 2000's as a tail-end to the section on cards in the US.
Do happen to have any on hand and/or do you have some knowledge of these (or at least the interest to research)? If so, I'd happily accept your help on this section, if you are willing![]()
Thanks!

Oh, great -- you're just the kind of packrat I've been looking for![]()
Perhaps, once you've got some time, we could have a chat to see what exactly you could help out with -- but only if you're interested. This is tremendously fun for me, but the last thing I want to do is to pressure people into taking their time to help me.
Good luck on those exams!

Then of course there is the old DBZ Beckett magazines.

My YouTube
Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People

To play devil's advocate, what's the difference between your idea and retro junk? Just the emphasis on anime?

Re: Help Needed on Big Project: Old Era Dragonball Nostalgia
I no longer have any cards as they disappeared as soon as the fad did. As for purchasing them, I found found some cheap site but I doubt they are even still being tended to. As for DBZ Becket, its a old magazine that created magazines for individual anime. It went from DBZ-> DBGT Beckett so it changed based on where the show was at the time and as expected when GT stopped airing it stopped producing DBZ/GT related magazines. ON those I do have a few magazines, I guess i need a scanner. I'll have to check my campus store for one of those.takarajima wrote:Thank you very muchSaimaroimaru wrote:I'll do research, what do you need exactly? The images of the cards?
Then of course there is the old DBZ Beckett magazines.![]()
In this site, personal experience is key, so as for writings I am looking for accurate history melded with personal experience. Each section on the site is a little spot on the web for the things of the forgotten era to shine. Tell the world what these cards are all about and why they're great, what makes them special to you, any personal stories you've got, etc. Straight history can probably be found fairly easily (for this at least) on Wikipedia or something similar. I'm not looking for reviews either. What I'm really looking to showcase are the memories, supported by accurate information. I hope that makes sense.
Of course, for a section on cards, there should be accompanying imagery. I don't want to copy images from the Internet, so ideally someone who actually has a collection of these will step up and let us get some pictures (I'm not sure if you have any...?). Though, something like this could probably be obtained on Ebay pretty cheaply, so there's always that route if it comes to it, although the more interesting cards will probably cost more.
If you do decide to work on this (I'm not forcing you by any means!), we can work together such that I can look at what you've got and make suggestions. If any other people are interested in this, they can take a look as well.
I'm actually not terribly familiar with the Beckett magazines you mentioned -- What have you got in mind?![]()
Thanks!

Re: Help Needed on Big Project: Old Era Dragonball Nostalgia
I think this is a great idea. I got into DBZ around '96 when it was playing on UPN and WB early in the morning. I still have some VHS with recordings from those days, but unfortunately I have no way to capture the footage. I wouldn't mind helping to contribute here and there, but I am not exactly sure what I could help with.
Trans rights, now!
