Good idea to bring back Freeza?
Do you think it was a good idea to bring back Freeza (and introduce King Cold) to set-up Trunks and the Androids? Or do you think they should've done something else?

It really wasn't IMO. Would've been much better if Freeza was just killed by Goku like he logically should have been. They brought Freeza back even more powerful along with a new, extremely badarse-looking guy, just for some random guy to show up and one-shot them, then ramble about some tin cans that are way stronger than he is. The whole early part of that arc feels like a fanfiction because of stuff like that.

Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
Well, Freeza was brought back purely to big-up Trunks, and then big-up the Androids, the guys who defeated the guy who killed even Freeza. I think it's called the Worf or something. I didn't like the idea of a cut-in-half Freeza surviving Super Saiyan Goku's blast and subsequently Namek's explosion, but I can't think of another more impactful way of hyping up the Androids that's better than having them be stronger than the guy who just killed the previous major villain.

Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
They could have just had an angry King Cold and Coola (nerfed from his godly Movie 5 power of course) show up seeking revenge and had Goku and Trunks have some awesome battles with them. Then after they win Trunks explains who he is, about the Jinzoningen, etc. There's no reason to ruin all that Freeza was built up to be to hype up some new guys IMO.
Freeza surviving being cut in half, blown up, and then having the planet he's on explode as well is just ridiculous. People rag on how Broli and Coola survived their "deaths" but Freeza's crappy comeback is no better than that IMO.

I believe it was. I didn't really care for Freeza by this point, but I like how his destruction went on to increase the potential of the new upcoming enemies. I believe this was a really nice way to include the next big enemies. Even now, I still find that entire part to be a good read. So yeah, I agree with you, Daimao.

Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
Yeah, maybe...but Freeza's never-before-mentioned brother showing up for revenge out of nowhere (like you brought up) feels like fanfiction as well. You could make the argument that Freeza's father suddenly showing up is as much of an asspull, but at least he was given a nod to in the previous arc.CatouttaHell wrote:It really wasn't IMO. I agree, having Freeza somehow survive his super-climatic battle is a tad weak, but like Piccolo Daimao, I can't think of any other way that could've showcased Trunks' power without seeming even more random.

Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
It was the most logical way to bring up the proceeding illogical arc. Still, as a child watching that fight go down - it was pretty awesome
Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
Freeza created greater shock.
But from a logical point of view, he should have died and only Cold should have gone to Earth.
The gang would have stated that his power was very similar and comparable to that of Freeza, only slightly weaker.
And Cold would have firmly believed that his son had been killed not because he was outmatched, but because the Earthlings that were on Namek managed to somehow kill him in some treacherous way by making the whole planet explode (or so he would assume)
Cold would have known of their existence thanks to the reports that Freeza's men did to the base, before the communications ceased and he would have gone to Earth to get even with the entire human race.

I think it was wrong, it kind of took away the impact of the end of the Freeza arc.
It was necessary plot-wise, but then I'm liking the Androids/Cell and Boo arcs less and less nowadays.

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I personally think it was... OK. It really helped move the series along, and made it clear that Freeza was no longer a threat.
Isn't that a reccuring theme anyways? Conquer the nearly impossible to defeat enemy, then make a joke out of them later in the series, as if they're nothing? At least in the anime. Lol.

Freeza should have stayed dead. Period.

Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
I think that King Cold should have just been introduced and headed to Earth to plot revenge against his son. Having Freeza come back to be killed like it was nothing just makes him into a silly character, and I find it hard to believe that between the Namek fight until the Earth fight, that Goku would gain so much more power (he was guarding Trunks's sword attacks with one finger, and Trunks had no trouble with Freeza at all). And... what was up with his "mechanical" form? It looked his men took random parts from random household appliances and attached them to him.
Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
I thought it was a great idea.
I just wish Toriyama put more emphasis into having Freeza utilize his highest ability or highest Ki output before we see Trunks easily dispatch him. The anime captured what I envisioned quite well.

Re: Good idea to bring back Freeza?
Frieza's return was bittersweet. During the Namek arc, I was in awe of Frieza's might. I remember being in Junior High and freaking out when I found out that Freeza's battle power after his first transformation was over 1,000,000. He was terrible and invincible up until Goku went SSJ. I was ecstatic that Goku had achieved such incredible power, but at the same time, I was sad to see such a great and powerful villain beaten into submission. After trunks bifurcated him in two, he became little more than canon fodder, a sad, sad measuring stick for the Saiyans and their more powerful foes.

This is how I've always thought it should of went down, with one change: King Cold does believe his son was outmatched, and retaliates by invading Earth. Then the whole Z-senshi has to fight Cold's army, and when Trunks shows up and decimates most of them, including King Cold... "holy crap, who is this guy?" ensues.rereboy wrote:Freeza created greater shock.

Why do I think this works out better? Proper closure. Goku killed Freeza, Trunks kills King Cold, and their empire is successfully beaten to a pulp by the Z-senshi.

Sounds very DragonBall orientated. It woud be much more fitting then casting the rest aside right after they comeback to life.djkalteraphine wrote:This is how I've always thought it should of went down, with one change: King Cold does believe his son was outmatched, and retaliates by invading Earth.
