I've gotten over the tracing thing a while ago, but I am curious about something. In Japan, can you make money from using someone's intellectual property, let alone directly tracing someone else's work? Not to sound clueless about other cultures, but how do copyright laws work in Japan? Do they even exist? If not, then I just found a new way to make some easy money!

Technically, it’s derivative work, but doujinshi is permitted as it allows the scouting of new manga artists, which is valuable to the manga industry on a whole.
Many popular manga artists started off drawing doujinshi. Also, when selling doujinshi, you don’t make much profit. In fact, a lot of times you can barely cover printing costs. There has been legal action taken over certain doujinshi, but it's rare.
There’s a huge convention called Comiket were doujinshi is sold.
And yes, copyright laws exist in Japan.

Oh, well. I'll place a bid. It's not the most I've ever payed for a doujinshi.
The highest I'm willing to go is about £70 or so. We'll see how this goes.
If worst come to worst, I'll see if I can avoid the whole bidding thing and buy direct from the author.

EDIT: Already outbid, ahaha, oh dear.

Quick question - I doubt it will happen, but - if the off chance the 3 pack is cheaper than buying the volume 3 single, would anyone take volumes 1 and 2 off my hands? I'll even give you them for free. I, obviously, already have them.

For fairness sake, since Xevious asked first, I'm going to give these two to him. (Assuming I even buy the three pack).
But, if I come across some more copies of volume 1 and 2 (and since I buy/sell/trade doujinshi a lot, there's a good chance I will), I'll keep you in mind.

EDIT: Welp, outbid again. People are too excited to get this. I wouldn't be surprised if volume 3 reaches 9000/10000 yen at this point. I can see the 3 pack going for a high price too, since it's already at 3000+ yen with 6 days to go.
If only the author sold at Comiket/cons, this would be easier to get.
