I was thinking about if Funi will release Kai parts 1-4 with the Kikuchi score so I emailed them to find out.
I wrote:I and some others have noticed that with the recent release, Dragon Ball Z Kai Part 5, the music composed by Kenji Yamamoto has been replaced with the music from Dragon Ball Z, composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi. My question is, will you be replacing Kai parts 1-4 with Shunsuke Kikuchi's music aswell? I am interested in buying these sets but I might put off buying them for now if there is an inconsistency in the music.
And Funimation wrote:
Funimation wrote:We will not be re-authoring parts 1 through 4 for the foreseeable future. The current version of the first four parts will stay ‘as is’ for the time being. I cannot provide further information on this topic.
So, I guess Kikuchi will not appear in the early parts of the series until later rereleases. And, I'm now able to buy the earlier sets without having to worry about reissues.

That's a relief. As much as I prefer Kikuchi's score in most cases, when I buy vol 4, I want to hear "The Braveheart's Triumphant Return" behind Goku's "I am the Super Saiyan, Son Goku!" speech.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

And so ends my kind of/sort of/maybe interest in purchasing the series for the foreseeable future. I'll come back when the entire series at least has a consistent soundtrack; I don't care which one.

Hmm, I was actually hoping they would quietly just slipt the replacement music into the previous sets without making a big deal about it. But, I guess not.

Damn it, I guess one way to get Kikuchi's score is to import the Part 4 Blu-ray from the Madman release if it has the Kikuchi score.

Oh my God that's a relief. As much as I love Kikuchi's score, Kai without Yamamoto just feels wrong. I guess, hypothetically, if someone wanted the early episodes with Kikuchi, Nicktoons and Toonzai would be using it. They'd just have to tape those episodes off TV.

I was really hoping this would happen. I'd gladly re-buy the first 52 Episodes if they had the Kikuchi Score on it. While watching through Kai again right now as I type this, I find that I actually prefer the Kikuchi Music with Kai after watching through Part 5.

I rushed and bought the four parts just in case there were re-issues. I guess that wasn't necessary. Whatever, as much as I want a consistent release for once, I'm happy with the sets I own. The earlier episodes with the Kikuchi score, in my opinion, don't fit in very well with Kai.

Actually, I had a plan set for this whole thing. I was going to use those $30 dollar Walmart bundles as my source for the Yamamoto score and then I was going to wait for a reissue for the single sets and get those for Kikuchi. I was going to start next month, maybe two months from now. But now, I don't have to rush and buy them, I can go at a normal pace.

It's really not their fault and I think that they feel that people would crap all over them if they re-released the first four because that's even more money people have to spend. I'm really not caring. That was the way the show was meant to be seen after all.

C'mon, guys. This is FUNimation we are talking about here. These guys are notorious for re-releasing shit. After Kai is said and done, they will start putting out bigger box sets at reduced prices.

The question is will they bother to re-release the bigger sets with the Kikuchi score?

I don't think it's a matter of "will they", rather, "can they". To which the answer is a resounding "no".
Any rerelease will include the remixed Kukichi score, without a doubt. Even the wording on that official email seems to imply this.

The only way the early episodes will have the Kikuchi score is if/when FUNimation rerelases Kai with more episodes in a set or a complete series.
They're just not going to to rerelease the pervious 4 volumes with the Kikuchi
score.

Man, I'm real glad that those sets will keep the Yamamoto music. I'm not buying any sets past 4 because of the replacement score, but at least I'll still have incentive to buy the first four.
