Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
So they're actually making a Ocean Dragon Ball Z Kai dub....pretty interesting. While I'm not really a fan of having 2 dubs in the same language, I'm kinda curious onto how the Ocean dub for Kai will be. After hearing what they can do with Death Note and countless others, I'm really excited on how this dub will sound. I just hope people will record the episodes for us non-Canadian folk.

As much as I would love Kelamis to be Goku again, I'd be open to a new voice.

We'll see how a new one would hold up

The downside to this? No Yamato score D':. But um, I hope that Peter Kelamis can come back to do Goku justice. Not that I hate Schemmel's Goku, but Kelamis performance is ... When you hear him voice-act as Goku, you just think "this guy is the guy."
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
If Lee was cast as Freeza, along with a few of the things Kirby alluded to during that interview, it sounds like the approach they're taking to this new dub is indeed going to be more faithful as FUNi's take on it has been. It'll be interesting to see how they go about it from their perspective.

Lee Tockar as Freeza? He is the one who did Vile in the Megaman cartoon, right? Awesome. Now I really hope Brian Drummond will play Vegeta.

Well, at least we'll hear Ocean's dub with Kikuchi's music for the first time.NeoKING wrote:The downside to this? No Yamato score D':

I believe you're forgetting the Ocean dub of the first 3 movies. Anyway, wasn't it said somewhere along the line that the Ocean dub of Kai is going to have some Canadian music instead?

This. We have no idea if Ocean will keep the original score at all. I don't care how good the voices are, no original score + no uncut version = zero interest from me.SaiyamanMS wrote:Anyway, wasn't it said somewhere along the line that the Ocean dub of Kai is going to have some Canadian music instead?

I take it you haven't seen the first 3 movies? Bad music placement won't make he happy to hear Kikuchi's music in Ocean's Kai.thedarkuniter wrote:Well, at least we'll hear Ocean's dub with Kikuchi's music for the first time.NeoKING wrote:The downside to this? No Yamato score D':
Now with Lee Tockar announcing himself as being cast as Freeza in Ocean's Kai, I am very surprised that they aren't further into production as one might expect. The production values for Ocean kai are the exact opposite of the production values of the Westwood Z dub, the robotic/stiff/odd voice acting plagued the Westwood dub, they are taking their time this time around, so hopefully it will sound more like their previous work Seasons 1/2, Movies 1-3, Gundam Seed, Inu Yasha, and Death Note in terms of voice acting without the awkward line delivery and nothing like the Westwood Z Dub.

Sean Schemmel posted around the time that Dragon Ball "Z" Kai began airing on Nicktoons on his Facebook page (back when he had one) that there would be an "Ocean dub version of Kai with a replacement score."SaiyamanMS wrote:I believe you're forgetting the Ocean dub of the first 3 movies. Now if there is any truth to that remains to be seen but an excellent dub cast, and a faithful score would seem kind of pointless if they don't keep in the Japanese score.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Sean Schemmel can't hear something that doesn't exist. If they've just started working on the Freeza saga, or even just finally casted Freeza, I doubt they even produced anything major at the time Sean Schemmel made his comments.SaiyamanMS wrote:I believe you're forgetting the Ocean dub of the first 3 movies. I actually seen the movies with Kikuchi's score. However, I meant like the show itself, it would be a first for them in the TV series to have Kikuchi's score. The Kikuchi placement in Kai isn't as bad as people make it out to be.dagame10k wrote:I take it you haven't seen the first 3 movies? Since I dislike the placement of Kikuchi's score in Kai, I don't mind if they use some new replacement score (if it is good enough though). The best course of action would be to hire someone familiar with the Kikuchi score and let him place it properly instead of just using Toei's official music track. I don't think that will actually happen, though.

I'm less concerned with who voices what, and more concerned that they choose a competent voice director.

Hopefully, they can get the ADR Director that did Death Note. I also believed he did the direction for the Dragon Ball movies as well.

If they pull this dub off, I will seriously be a happy man. I've just rewatched Piccolo's death, Saban version, and it was so well done. If they do use replacement music it better be the quality of Shuki Levy. I mean, they captured that scene so well!
I am curious to see who would play Gohan and Piccolo. That is something they had done right before, hopefully they will choose right again!

Is there anyway fans can e-mail these guys to tell them what VAs we'd prefer in the dub?
Sean Schemmel is THE MAN! :)

I'm sure it's too late by now anyways. I would love to have Kelamis, but according to a Twitter response he said he didn't even know about any DBZ castings. It's probably by now a done deal.GS7X7 wrote:Is there anyway fans can e-mail these guys to tell them what VAs we'd prefer in the dub?
