Images On The Main Site

Post by batistabus » Fri Jun 24, 2011 5:03 pm

...are generally "un-clickable". On many sites when you click an image, you can see a higher resolution version on another page. The pictures need to be scaled down as to not stretch out the column (and generally look better), but I always find myself hoping to see the images in higher resolution to no avail.

So, why is this? Is there a chance of this ever changing? It's not a big deal, but I've tried to click the images on at least 5 separate occasions, so I figured I'd at least mention it. Also, I figure that some of these images are at their max resolution anyway.

Also, you can do it on Kanzentai ;)
Edit: Sometimes...

Well sometimes the images are way too awesome, if they were viewed any bigger they'd blow your tiny little mind!

OK, sorry. I have no idea where that came from. But, I think it's to prevent people from taking these images. For example, the Music Database has some pretty rare images. I'm sure they weren't easy to get, so why make it easy for someone else to just come along and swipe them?

Or... maybe Mike just has a little tiny scanner.

I agree with this. It's probably to prevent piracy. DaizEX has had a long and troubled history of other websites stealing their content and using it as their own, without permission and minus any credit.

I can't care any less if someone wants to swipe an image. (1) It's obvious when they do 'cuz they're generally too lazy to crop out the blue border and drop shadow, and (2) it's not like it's my original art, anyway.

It's mostly because I still run the site like I did when I redesigned it in 2002 for launch in 2003 -- everything is manual. Also, I don't personally see the need for larger versions of images for things like the home page in news, 'cuz they likely have links right to things like product pages, official websites, etc. -- you can click through for whatever the original version is, it's just that the link might be in the text instead of the image, itself. Just gotta... ya' know... read.

Donate to my Paypal account so I can pay less for hosting and then I can convince Mike to do crazy shit using my hosting for it without worrying about paying for it.

It doesn't matter who it is that pays for the site's hosting. None of that changes the underlying architecture of the site and how unwilling I am to do anything about it right this second :P.

Do you mean consistent, regular donations, or a one-time donation of X dollars?

OK, fine. Expect me to change the underlying architecture of the site by December 21st, 2012. Does that work for you?

22nd at the latest.
