It didn't exactly leave on a cliff hangar, Goku's dead and, with his death, enemies will no longer threaten Earth. Gohan's surpassed him and was to carry out the bloodline. The Buu Saga introduced the SSJ 3 form, which made no sense (He learned it from random aliens? What?) and was essentially just making his hair crap long. Not to mention Toriyama caving and making Goku the big hero, again. I don't know, I thought the saga was rushed somewhat and lacked the polish of the earlier sagas.
Counterpoints:

1. No Vegetto.

2. Leaving Gohan as the hero.

Yes, the ending there is way better than having Goku fly off with a random kid. It makes much more sense.
So mondo lame.

What does the quality of each arc have to do with anything, even if the points you mentioned were a real source of contention? Kai still ended without finishing Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z's story, warts and all. I don't like the Android arc, but I certainly wouldn't be okay with it being excised just because of what I happen to prefer seeing in my anime. I could just read up to the end of the 23rd Tournament and call it quits because I don't care for the rest (hypothetically speaking), but that would be ridiculous.

I also like it because it gives meaning back to Goku's death. It's like the English lyrics for Dragon Soul said, "Nothing ever dies, we will rise again." If the biggest hero in the whole story DOESN'T rise again, it adds so much more emotion to his death and the scenes that follow it.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Right, but the fans had to be stubborn and demand Goku's return. Poor Toriyama wanted to retire Goku for so long, but never could, because he wanted to please the fans. So... Win-Lose for Toriyama.
So mondo lame.

There's no proof that Goku returned because of popular demand. Toriyama just couldn't make Gohan work in the hero role, which doesn't come as a surprise after watching the kid's performance against Cell.

I would say Kai was worth it if it was a consistent release, but sadly Toei fucked over the integrity of it's own product with the music recall.

Even Kai with Shunsuke Kikuchi's music is still better than the original series because it ends where it should have in the first place.
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn

I don't know why so many people are bitching about the music when the fundamental superiority of Kai remains unchanged.

I still find Kai superior to Z, however I can't help but bitch about the music because I've heard these dozen Kikuchi songs a million times already and placed much better back in Z.

Also, don't tell anyone, but I enjoy Yamamoto's score much better than Kikuchi's. Kai OST 3 was my favorite collection of Dragon Ball BGM ever. :(

Because the music was the fundamental reason why Kai is superior to the original series.

Why should it be kept a secret? Kikuchi is arguably a better composer, but Yamamoto's music fits in so much more within the context of DBZ.
