Dragon Box 1 Currently Not Being Sold On Amazon.com

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Wed Jul 20, 2011 10:39 pm

Apparently there's a little message on the Dragon Box 1 listing...

Image

Now, I've NEVER seen this type of message on Amazon ever, and I've been shopping there since 1999! What the Hell are people complaining about? Any ideas?

(This news was brought to my attention by karasuhebi on Twitter. I've never heard of him before but, he seems like a nice guy :D)

I have the feeling that it's the lack of faulconer's score people are complaining about....

But Faulconer's score wouldn't be on Dragon Box 1 either way, even if FUNimation had chosen to keep the dub music...

This was my first thought as well but why wouldn't this happen to the latter Dragon Boxes? Maybe its because people maybe just bought the first one to try out the Dragon Boxes.

Interesting notice though. Well you can still buy Dragon Box 1 on Amazon.ca for the inflated price of around $62CDN :lol:.

The people who are complaining probably don't know that...(or care...)

If you read the thread on the Amazon sale, this happened to Dbox 4 during the same period. It robbed me of getting the item on sale!

I do not know what Amazon's problem would be, either, unless they had a batch of defective discs or boxes which are as wrecked as the Dbox 1 I have (anyone here able to offer a spare box/packaging? My discs and DBook are fine.)

I'm outraged that this has occured. I'm currently composing an open letter to Amazon addressing this issue if anyone wants to co-sign it let me know.

I think it'd be a better suggestion to -politely ask- what reports Amazon are getting that would cause these temporary holdbacks.

Based on the (lack of) evidence that anything actually is wrong with any Dbox shipments lately, I'm gonna assume either;
A) People got nitpicky over an Amazon description (DBox 4 was listed as having extras when it doesn't, but anyone who was getting the Dboxes before the sale already knew that.)
B) People are mopey about how the English track was handled and are taking it out through Amazon complaints.

If either of these are the case, we should just tell the folks at Amazon that the Dragon Boxes are fine and that they should not treat these complaints as though they are defects in the items. The worst case scenario already happened - DBox 4 popped back up at $40.99 instead of the $23.99 it was during the sale period.

For some reason I think people are complaining about either the lack of dub music or the fact that it defaults to Japanese and some people don't know how to work a DVD remote.

So I'm not the only one getting hacked Dragonboxes sent from Amazon. That's nice to know. It's not happening in shipping as there isn't much room in the boxes for anything to move around in. It must be in the warehouse or something.

Corey mentioned to me that some of his stuff came in damaged from a recent Dragon Box order, and based on some other anecdotal evidence pointing that way, I have to imagine that's what the issue is.

No need to turn this into a "dub music" discussion when it's got nothing to do with it at all.

If anyone finds out from Amazon what they deem to be the issues with these boxes I'd certainly be interested to know. I bought 1, 3, 5, and 6 from the recent sale, but I tend not to unseal my DVDs until I decide to watch them (in case I'd rather sell them down the line at more lucrative "Brand New" prices).

The 4 sets were stacked together, 2 by 2, in a very tight sealed plastic bundle inside the shipping carton. It was so tight that it caved in the edges of the boxes a little, which I wasn't too happy about (but not serious enough to bother returning). Aside from that issue, DBox 1 had a weird 1/4 inch diameter circular ink stain on the back of the box. I felt that section of the box, and there was something protruding a little bit which felt like it was between the cardboard and the cover wrap. All the other sets had it too (in different locations), so I'm thinking they're security devices for retail stores to make use of. None of the other boxes I received had the blotted ink coming from it, but perhaps this could also be a reason for these Amazon issues. I sure hope the rest of the devices don't start leaking out sometime down the line...

Other than those two issues, my DBox 6 came with the middle section (Dragon Book?) inserted upside down, so it's gonna look funny on my shelf if I display it that way until I actually unseal it and correct the problem. It could also be an issue with loose discs...

I'm feeling pretty manipulated into laying down money on this sale, as I'm sure it's no coincidence that it happened right before the BDs were announced. Whether the BDs have the typical Funi issues or not, I'd rather have waited to find out how they compared before buying the Dragon Boxes, as I have no intention of watching them (and the show for the billionth time) until the original Dragon Ball gets a more proper release. So maybe I'll just try to return them... Meh.

(Though as it stands, if anyone's trying to get Amazon to honor the sale price on DBox 4, I'd like to know if they succeed. I wouldn't mind attaching my name to a letter or whatever. =p)

When I ordered DBox 5, it came in a crappy padded envelope and one of the discs came loose causing it to get scratched beyond playability. I had to exchange it for a new one. The notice mentions "the way we are shipping it." I wouldn't be surprised if that is the sort of problem they are addressing. It's certainly not about Faulconer. The small but vocal minority that is up in arms over the loss of his score has been complaining about that since the DBoxes came out years ago.

I ordered DBoxes 1 and 6 from Amazon and both of those sets had a crack in the glass casing. All the ones I ordered from Rightstuff on the other hand were just fine, no problems that I'm aware of. My only conclusion is Amazon fucking sucks.

A bit of an update;

Dbox 1 is back in stock at $49.99.

Now Dbox 6 has been hit with the "Item Under Review" thing.

I bought Dragon Box 3 from Amazon when it first came out, and it was pretty banged up. The box was dented and the cases had big cracks inside. I really should have exchanged it, but once I verified the discs were okay I couldn't bear to part with it. And now it's been over a year, so it's way too late for an exchange.

The rest I ordered from RightStuf and never had those kind of problems.
