Has anyone mentioned the gay stereotype from the tournament yet? Completely forget his name, but that could be seen as evidence that it was written for a heterosexual male audience.

That's the guy from when Goku fought Uub, right? Yeah, I know him, and yes, I think it's highly likely that Akira wrote Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z with only children/teenagers in mind, seeing as how most of the girls (excluding Videl and #18) are seen as only support type characters who are often much more irritable than the others, because of how much fanservice there was in Dragon Ball, and how it centers around ideals that would appeal most to boys (getting better at fighting, being physically fit, and getting through life's hardship with sheer determination and willpower).Has anyone mentioned the gay stereotype from the tournament yet? Completely forget his name, but that could be seen as evidence that it was written for a heterosexual male audience.
That being said though, I think this show is enjoyable by all age groups. For example, when I first showed this to a girl that I like to hang out with, she was hooked almost immediately (at first, she was too busy laughing hysterically at things like Goku being able to ride on a cloud, Gohan having a tail, Master Roshi blowing up the moon, Raditz calling his attack 'Double Sunday', etcetera, etcetera...)....
But now it's one of her favorite shows, mainly because she loves the characters so much. So no, it's not appealing just to males, even though it was probably written with only them in mind.

I'm a girl and think Krillin and Tenshinhan are hot, just saying... When I was first registering here I unconsciously typed Kuwabara instead of Botan because I heard Yusuke yelling his name in the background while I had Yu Yu Hakusho playing.SuperAndroid11 wrote:You're a dude right? Is he a midget? Or what?Rocketman wrote:Chaozu isn't a child.SuperAndroid11 wrote:I don't think the serious wants to make him out to be a pedophile in having a crush on Choutzu.
How can you think Krillin is hot? I'll never know what Android 18 saw in him. Also, are you into 3 eyed monks, cuz Tenshinhan is hideous. Granted they are both in great shape, but then again, so is master Roshi and I don't think you find him attractive.Kuwabara wrote:I'm a girl and think Krillin and Tenshinhan are hot, just saying... Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Dragonball Z can be compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. DBZ is geared towards young boys but can be enjoyed by a wide variety of people, and Buffy was centered around feminism but is still enjoyed by plenty of males.
I introduced Dragonball to my girlfriend and she has watched it twice with me now all the way through.

Android 18 suffered from bad trope syndrome. Of course he was kind to her and insisted on bringing her back to normal state, but I can hardly see any tension between them.

Don't bald guys tend to be old? I mean I guess there's Pitbull, but he's not really sexy?Kuwabara wrote:I like bald guys, which is why Chris Sabat is mega hot to me too, can't wait to meet him in person some day...
I don't know Android 18 was like an 8-8 1/2 and Krillin is like a 6-7? I hardly think its a bad trope syndrome thing. That's pretty shallow judging by looks too.Eire wrote:Android 18 suffered from bad trope syndrome. You are now imagining Krillin and 18 singing "I'll Never Tell".Kroni_Hunter wrote:Dragonball Z can be compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

You're only kind of female?Velasa wrote:I'm kind of a female myself, and most of the people I grew up on the show with were females as well. It would be nice to have strong female characters, yeah, but we're completely capiable of liking and relating to characters who don't look like us.
And if you think people who've never watch a show spend that much time drawing slash of it? Yeah, I don't think so.
