How is that a fiasco?

Well, it's 4:3 and a new transfer.

It's too soon to tell what master it's struck from, but as annoyed as I am to admit this, I might actually purchase this. Time will tell.

Really happy that dub fans will be getting the release they've been hoping for. It actually looks like FUNimation may well be putting effort into this one.
As for me, I think the Dragon Boxes and Kai will be enough for my collection (especially now that it'll have a consistent soundtrack release).

Sigh Why does Funimation always give DBZ the cheesiest trailers. Will make judgements when a high quality version of the trailer comes out.

Ever see the trailers for Nabari no Ou, or Master of Martial Arts? It might just be their trend. Yeah I know the latter is more cheesecake than cheesy, but still...

I just saw that trailer and it looks decent enough (Not bleached) for me to buy. Time to put Blu-ray player on the top of my christmas list.

I'm still going to remain skeptical on this latest effort until a professional review of the first set is done.

Hell, I would love it if this Blu-Ray set finally had a dubbed version of CHA LA HEAD CHA LA with Vic Mignogna or Jerry Jewel singing it.

A lot of the trailer was kind of jabbing at themselves for the last "remaster" attempt, especially the part where "FRAME BY FRAME" was said 3 times fast (accompanied with apparent examples of them doing actual manual grain removal), and "more VERTICAL resolution" (Complete with them showing a comparison where they appear to have even more vertical resolution than the DBox.)

Among the good things about this ad; that they aren't passing off a dumb idea like "Cropped widescreen" as "bringing the show to a new generation". The colors, looking like the classic Ocean/UUE colors, look a lot easier on the eyes than the bleached bricks (Or, to me, Kai). The scene with the OP shows direct comparisons to the DBox; the implication being this mean FUNi's aiming to make an edition that rivals that in visual quality. I question whether it can be -that- good, but just the idea of them taking this seriously and going all-out means it's worth taking a look at to see the results.

I think that is an unfair comparison because the Dbox footage (probably) on the left side is from a 16mm film master with the credits, but the "HD remastered" one on the right side is from the textless 35mm master which has more picture all around the screen.

edit: A comparison added.

Compare the amount of footage in this shot to the amount of footage of this same shot in the trailer:

Image

It looks like it is based on the DBox master or at least the source (and of course, the FuniBox master seems to be a few pixels lower than the JP one)
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

FUNi's one shows slightly more. Very slightly, though. (Sorry for a rough comparison.)

Alright, I updated the first post with only one known confirmation: Footage will be 4:3 full frame.

That's a start for FUNimation, a very good start.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

It's typical for Blu-ray to have a few more pixels on the borders than DVD. The teaser looks alright, but I really don't know if I want to buy the whole series again. I'll see how things pan out for now.

You should also update that the Blu-Rays will not be using the Season Set film stock, it will be a a new transfer, and that the masters appear to be from the Dragon Boxes.

Alright, I will update about the new transfer, but I wouldn't state that the new masters are from the Dragon Boxes until it is clarified more clearly (when a clearer trailer is posted or is stated in an official announcement).

I have to admit, this isn't looking bad at all. Especially when you consider we thought they would be just orange bricks on Blu-Ray.

Whoa... I had to admit that was my biggest fear as well (using the orange brick footage). After watching that trailer I will have to admit I might grab these if it's done right - and it's looking like it might be done right.

Damn it if I have to buy things once more, although I might wait until the prices drop on the sets (as they always do).

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Why do I have a feeling we're going to see some uncultured idiots in the future claiming that the Season Sets are "more HD" than the Blu-rays due to being widescreen?
