Kai Soundtrack
Hey guys, I'm a little bit late getting to Kai, but I had a question or two I figured someone could quickly answer for me.
I watched one disc through Netflix (the first few episodes) and grabbed the part Four BluRay really cheap. Then I just picked up part Five BluRay and noticed the music changed completely. It sounded like the original music.
So, 1) why was this? and 2) was the original Japanese broadcast the same? and 3) are the future releases going to be the same or have the updated music?
To be honest, I was disappointed with the inclusion of the 'old' music and was getting used to the 'new' music.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Same, the new music was the one thing that appealed to me about Kai.ect5150 wrote:To be honest, I was disappointed with the inclusion of the 'old' music and was getting used to the 'new' music.

1) That article in the second post covers it in much greater detail, but the super-short version is that Toei fired Kenji Yamamoto (the Kai music composer) because they concluded that he might be plagiarizing his music. All of the episodes were then re-edited to use the music of DBZ's composer, Shusnuke Kikuchi...although the placement of the music is completely different for Kai than it is for Z.ect5150 wrote:So, 1) why was this? and 2) was the original Japanese broadcast the same? and 3) are the future releases going to be the same or have the updated music?
2) Again, the article covers it in much greater detail. Super-short version is that in Japan, Kai didn't change to the Kikuchi music until there were only a scant few episodes left. However, yes, all of the remaining episodes and reruns of previous episodes were replaced with the Kikichui-Kai mix.
3) Yup. All future releases will have the Kikuchi-Kai mix, and they're re-releasing the episodes they already did with the Kikuchi-Kai mix.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Kai Soundtrack
Thanks for the info, I'll have to read the article in a bit.
In short, that blows monkey chunks! I could never watch that much of the dub with the original release, but I found that I could with the new music. It just seemed to work better for me. But now that it has fallen to the way-side I don't have much incentive to keep buying Kai (unless I can get them ultra cheap). I am a sub fan, but the original score just doesn't mix for me with the North American voice actors. I'm disappointed now.

Well, I'd say the Blu-Rays are ultra cheap now. Five of the six are sitting in my Amazon cart right now for around $88.95. Normally, those five sets would total out somewhere closer to $195.

Re: Kai Soundtrack
Oh good, there's a topic.
Hey guys a question has been floating about my head for a few days and I (would) like it answered. Which tracks from the original Z soundtrack are used in Kai and from what album?
I know that only around 10 tracks are used total since a lot of them are reused in episodes and only once in a while I hear a track that wasn't reused 10 times before.
That's one thing I miss about Kai's old music - at least there was a little more variety in how they used the tracks in the episodes. With the old music replacement it just seems I hear the same track over and over and over again.

All the tracks are from "Dragon Ball Z BGM Collection".goku262002 wrote:Oh good, there's a topic.

Re: Kai Soundtrack
Oh ok cool so that is the name of the original Dbz's OST. But I doubt that all tracks from the BGM collection are used can you tell me which tracks out of all three CDs are used in Kai?kei17 wrote:All the tracks are from "Dragon Ball Z BGM Collection".
Btw, Love how this board publically humiliates you with its spell checker and does not let you make the changes needed. I got such bad habits.
Re: Kai Soundtrack
They use stereo pieces only for consistency's sake. In addition, they don't use the variations of the theme songs of DBZ, so theoretically about 80 to 100 tracks are usable.goku262002 wrote:Oh ok cool so that is the name of the original Dbz's OST.
