DBZ No Longer on Hulu?

Post by Kendamu » Sat Aug 06, 2011 12:12 am

http://www.hulu.com/dragon-ball-z

Seems that within the past several days DBZ has stopped showing on Hulu. Was this some sort of quiet cancellation, does it have something to do with it being available for a per-episode fee on PSN, were not enough people watching, or are they just making sure you can't watch the show for free to get more people to pay for the upcoming Blu-ray release?

I wasn't watching the episodes (not an Orange Brick fan) but every once in awhile I'd hop on just to see how far they'd made it. I also thought it was neat that there was an option between the Japanese and English versions. Anyone have any idea what happened?

Does anyone really care?

I'm still on the I can't believe DBZ is(or now was) on hulu and no body told me part.
Wouldn't been a whole lot easier those bored moments instead of dressing up as a pirate for 30 minutes.

It honestly might be a lack of streams, I remember checking Most Popular Shows and DBZ was....way way in the back. But it could because of the BD, who knows.

Yeah, I'm afraid the rights to stream DBZ must have been taken away from FUNimation.

They were uploading several episodes each month, but last month none showed up, and then last week all of the episodes were removed. I would say that the fact that the DBZ page is still up on Hulu might be a good sign, but back when the One Piece Simulcast was to start but got delayed (we thought it might be canceled at the time) Hulu left the One Piece page up for a while just like they're doing right now with DBZ.

The streaming eps are gone from FUNimation's own site as well. All that's left are DBox ads. Not that there's anything wrong with DBox. :P

I don't think this has anything to do with rights issues - FUNi likely just saw that they can throw their orange bricks up on PSN and XBLA at $1 an ep and it'd be a lot more profitable than keeping them up for free on Hulu. It's possible they may have moved the eps to "Hulu Plus" instead, but, yeah.

It almost certainly has nothing to do with the PSN release. I recently watched Bamboo Blade on Hulu (well, on Funi's site with the Hulu player), and the episodes were available on the PSN store for purchase. Perhaps they're replacing the season set cropped footage with the new 4:3 remaster.

I doubt it, but I would be pretty happy if this were the case! Or Kai, even! Replacing it with (uncut) Kai would be cool, too!

Yea, but that really has nothing to do with this. Those were there long before DBZ was on Hulu.

I dunno, I still think its because people weren't watching the Hulu streams.

That was kinda meant to be in reply to the one guy hoping for Kai streams.

If I remember correctly, didn't Funimation say in the announcement for streaming "Z", that they would eventually get to Dragon Ball, GT, and Kai? If so, I'm crossing my fingers to get those up there.

They did, but at this rate I'm wondering if it'll actually happen. Best case scenario is that they decided to search for another avenue for streaming since countries such as Canada weren't able to watch the streams.

When Funimation switched over to their beta website Canadians were able to watch the Dragon Ball Z stream (I watched one of the episodes). However, they have also now completely removed the Dragon Ball Z episodes off of the main site.

It's months after Navarre sold it off IIRC? Just to clarify, the new site is quite different from the old.

I just checked, today they reuploaded the first 15 episodes.

I guess they're going to start all over? I wonder what the deal was?

Did they always have the Toei bug in the bottom right corner?
