OMG guys, like the Japanese version doesn't have corny jokes sprinkled everywhere in the series ^^.

Heaven forbid we forget Vegeta's equating #19 to an overgrown calculator, or "I'M GOING TO SUCK YOU!"

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

It's a matter of accurate translation. Just because there are jokes in one version doesn't mean you can just put new ones wherever you want in the other version. Even going between English dubs alone, the Z version and Kai version of that scene are completely different in tone and it has nothing to do with Kai being faster.

During that point, Vegeta and Freeza are supposed to be having some serious words and Krillin's supposed to be looking on in fear because Freeza's about to transform. In the original DBZ dub, Vegeta and Freeza are completely out of character and Krillin is looking on like, "These guys are absolutely mondo nuts! I'm speechless over how mondo their nuttiness is!"

Take Batman: The Animated Series, for example. At one point at the very end of an episode Bruce fools Alfred into thinking he'll be docking Alfred's pay over some broken antiques then comes back with a smirk and an, "April Fool's, Alfred." That joke doesn't mean that, if dubbed in another country, some other studio can just start throwing in their own humor wherever they want and have Batman and the Joker in that same episode arguing about cheese or something while Batman fights Captain Clown. It completely ruins the tone and characterization.

Ever watch the Japanese dub of Beast Wars? Way I hear it, that's what they did, and they made a female character male.

And that completely sucks for Japanese Beast Wars fans who might've wanted an actual good dub.

What is this whole story of Mewtwo Strikes Back? Did they edit things based off of 4Kids, or...? I'm really confused.

I read that statement about subs as "On MSB DVDs with English subtitles, they used the dub script, since they appeared to like it." Whcih is pretty funky given that most of 4kids big properties have at least one faux-expose video of Japanese fans watching their episodes and getting confused over the music and dialogue changes. Topic derailing, but I didn't know that either.

There were dual-audio (Japanese and English) releases of the first two or three Pokemon movies in Japan, and these apparently came with closed captions for both the original Japanese and the English dub.

Exactly what this is supposed to "prove", I'm not entirely sure of.

Not closed-captions for Japanese. Japanese subtitles for the English dub.

But otherwise, dub Freeza. Dub Freeza.
Yeah, I was just watching that episode on the Dragon Box, and everything from after Piccolo fuses with nail and flies off to the end of the episode looks incredibly lousy.

Well, the original post DID ask if Funi's dub was really as ridiculous as a youtube clip made it seem. It was kind of all about pointing & laughing at the bad rewrites from the beginning.

I dunno. You've got a good mix with someone who worked on the replacement score coming in with "lolz japanese", so it's pretty fairly balanced.

Agreed. If you can't laugh at the original production of season three here in good ol' 2011, you don't know the meaning of fun!
