Either way, the packaging is what will make or break this for me.
I was refering to the number split up into two releases, why do it 5 and something and something instead of just 8 and 7.
I so very much so hope that they do the movies in one box. They could fit them all into a box the same dimensions as the yellow Dboxes right?

No Dragon Box The Movies=No Interest.
I already own all of the steelbooks already. I guess this is good for people who wanted the Double Features but can't find some of them since they are out of print.
I see Funimation doing this to go alongside their new Blu-ray release of Dragon Ball Z to have the movies out on the market too but I was hoping for Dragon Box The Movies.

I have hope that if the current HD remaster FUNi is doing is good, that they would re-do the movies for a re-release on Blu-ray.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
I must say that I've hit the point where I feel that FUNimation has gotten overly greedy. You can make the argument that the reason the Dragon Boxes came so shortly after the Season Sets was because the high sales of the Bricks led to FUNi having the money to purchase the DBOX masters. But this is downright ludicrous. They HAVE the DBOX masters and seemingly are purposely withholding them. Flooding the market further because we all know that within a month after these sets finish up we'll have the announcement of the DBOX Movies.
It just doesn't make sense. Is this about putting out sets with the English score on it? If so then why not just put the English score as an option on the Dragon Box Movies? Though I would prefer that not happen as I want FUNimation to not stray down that road, they already have gone backwards with its inclusion on the upcoming Blu-Ray release. So what could be the reason for a move like this? It's almost like they don't want the Dragon Box Movies to sell well. Because we all know that's what will happen if they put out these sets first. Why pay the money for something like the Dragon Box and not try and get the most bang for your buck?

You're forgetting the two TV specials, which Funimation has always sold as "movies" and included in their "movie" home video releases.LeprikanGT wrote:I was refering to the number split up into two releases, why do it 5 and something and something instead of just 8 and 7.

The scrapped singles didn't have dub music, you think they'd stick them on these?Baby Naruto wrote:Thank god these aren't dragonboxes, there'd be no dub bgm

Also, I could totally see them doing Dragon Box Z The Movies after this, the Dragon Boxes came out after the Season Sets, and the little hints could mean something like that...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
I don't quite see this as being overly greedy. FUNi and many other companies rerelease stuff all the time. Not to mention this is 5 movies for the MSRP of 30 dollars, that's a bargain, and I think it's been ample time between this and the steelbooks. I don't even think that when they released the DBox Z they were being greedy. I honestly don't think FUNi planned it, they just happened to get the rights for the footage and released it, which happened around the time as the Orange Bricks.
As for why they don't release the DBox masters, I don't know why. Maybe something came up, some trouble with Toei, who knows. Either way it's not like they have to release them, many companies will sit on licenses.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
Same here. There would have to be something AMAZING about these sets (i.e. all-new redone dubs with the new Kai cast) for me to even partially want this set now. Even packaging; I can't imagine three whole boxes being any more easy on shelf-space than the double-features already are in their thin steelbooks.PuppetDoctor wrote:No Dragon Box The Movies=No Interest.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
This release makes sense to me. Its not the Dragon Box because they don't need to put out the Dragon Boxes yet. This release is not for us. This release is for the normies who will see a movie five pack for $19.99 at Walmart and buy it because their kids watch the show on Nicktoons. There is a demand for some of these movies (fuckin' +$100 for the out of print Cooler steelbook). They don't have to put out the collector's edition yet because there's still money to be made on the regular ones. It makes sense, financially. And I hope it works out for them. That way FUNimation gets more money to put out stuff we want, and the average joe gets exposed to more Dragon Ball.

If they did thinpacks, maybe.Kaboom wrote:I can't imagine three whole boxes being any more easy on shelf-space than the double-features already are in their thin steelbooks.

I gotta wonder, where's the Blu-ray pack? Then I'd be interested.

Is it possible this'll be based on a new remastering a la the upcoming Z TV Blurays?
It'd be neat to something like that done with the movies in the open-matte 4:3 aspect ratio.
(EDIT: I keep mis-typing that aspect ratio. Dangit.)

Nah, it was explicitly described to me as a re-release of previously-released material, not anything new in any way. Just waiting to hear back a confirmation that it's the steelbook versions.

It would be nice, but I believe it's been confirm to be the old "remasters".KiddoCabbusses wrote:Is it possible this'll be based on a new remastering a la the upcoming Z TV Blurays?

Sacrificing image quality for an audio track? I don't know what to say about that one.Baby Naruto wrote:Thank god these aren't dragonboxes, there'd be no dub bgm

Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
The fact that this not Dragon Box footage leads me to believe Toei has an iron grip on it. I get the distinct impression that FUNi has to cultivate their own masters (now presumably making a proper high def remaster of the series itself) to last them as long as necessary because their long term use of the Dragon Box is not nearly as secure.
I sometimes get the impression that some people are of the mind that "FUNi has the Dragon Box, why aren't they using them?" It's probably more complicated than that and likely the reason why the Dragon Box releases seem disjointed and unrelated to their main DB line of products.
