I've been wondering this myself. I'm under the belief that the Dragon Box remasters were licensed for a one time release and this is why they keep releasing their own masters.TonyTheTiger wrote:The fact that this not Dragon Box footage leads me to believe Toei has an iron grip on it. I get the distinct impression that FUNi has to cultivate their own masters (now presumably making a proper high def remaster of the series itself) to last them as long as necessary because their long term use of the Dragon Box is not nearly as secure.
I sometimes get the impression that some people are of the mind that "FUNi has the Dragon Box, why aren't they using them?" It's probably more complicated than that and likely the reason why the Dragon Box releases seem disjointed and unrelated to their main DB line of products.

You guys are honestly surprised that they aren't using the Dragon Box masters? If they were, then wouldn't "Dragon Box" be on the title then? (The cheap price tag should of given you another clue.) Yet most of you guys jumped the gun and went "YAY IT GOIN TO PE DA DWAGAN BOX YIPPEE!" You people never learn. >_<

I don't think that's especially fair. The timing was awfully conspicuous.Son Geeko wrote:You guys are honestly surprised that they aren't using the Dragon Box masters? It's a bit confusing that they'd re-release an older remaster of the movies instead of releasing the Dragon Box versions, unless they don't plan on releasing a Dragon Box version for the movies...
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
I don't see why they wouldn't, considering they announced that they have the masters for the 13 Z movies. My theory is that these upcoming boxsets will be the Walmart-type release that everybody can get, similar to the orange bricks, and that the movies Dragon Box will be the limited release.

I'm crazy like that.Krycek7o2 wrote:Sacrificing image quality for an audio track? I don't know what to say about that one.Baby Naruto wrote:Thank god these aren't dragonboxes, there'd be no dub bgm

Which is totally more important than having original aspect ratio and specs.
Although I would prefer a release that had all 3 (original aspect ratio, original specs, and dub BGM).

The cover art, in case it hasn't been posted yet.

I have to admit, I kind of like it. At least they kept using that sidebar type packaging with the season sets and the movie packs.JulieYBM wrote:The cover art, in case it hasn't been posted yet.

The cover isn't bad, it could be way better and I think I would've preferred something with characters from more than just one of the movies, maybe something like this:

Can't wait to see what the slim-packs are like though, because if the Dragon Ball movie ones were any indication, then they'll be spectacular!

I'm so simple minded that I might get this for the sexy ass covers.

That's some pretty sexy art but, I don't like it representing movies 1 through 5. It kinda bothers me....
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
So, I might actually pick this up.
I think the double-features look arguably better than the Dragon Boxes to begin with, I still don't have Movies 3 and 4, and this would save some serious shelf space. Provided these are budget-priced releases, I may get all three and replace my double-features with them.

Still nothing that would make this worth it for anyone who already has all the double-features? Okay, I'll check back later.

So, I'm hoping these are like the Dragon Ball Movie 4-Pack. As in the cases are slim and come with those kickass full cover posters on the back! I loved that on that set.

Could the cover possibly imply a redub ala the Dragonball movies?
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
Umm...what? The only DB Movie that was redubbed was Movie 1.Luke Groundwalker wrote:Could the cover possibly imply a redub ala the Dragonball movies?
I swear, some of you guys are way too hopeful for a redub. It's time to stop thinking about it because you'll just be disappointed every time.

Yea, and that was only because we never got an uncut release of that movie.jjgp1112 wrote:Umm...what? The only DB Movie that was redubbed was Movie 1.Luke Groundwalker wrote:Could the cover possibly imply a redub ala the Dragonball movies?

I might just get this and the Dragon Ball movie pack, they seem cheap enough, and hopefully we'll get a Dragon Box release next...
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 (1-5) DVD set at RightStuf!
Your post makes the most sense on this thread. Hell by supporting these sets we may get the 4 Dragon Ball movies on the U.S. Dragon Box the movies release.Innagadadavida wrote:This release makes sense to me. Its not the Dragon Box because they don't need to put out the Dragon Boxes yet. This release is not for us. This release is for the normies who will see a movie five pack for $19.99 at Walmart and buy it because their kids watch the show on Nicktoons. There is a demand for some of these movies (fuckin' +$100 for the out of print Cooler steelbook). They don't have to put out the collector's edition yet because there's still money to be made on the regular ones. It makes sense, financially. And I hope it works out for them. That way FUNimation gets more money to put out stuff we want, and the average joe gets exposed to more Dragon Ball.
Bald that way
