Well, it's only a matter of time before we find out what songs "Heroic Face Off", "Mystery", and "One Hit To Victory" are rip offs of. Which will likely result in my suicide.

Huh, I wonder who did that? I mean, it couldn't have been you, you stopped working on Dragon Ball Z after "Cell's Bag of Tricks".
No I stopped right after arranging\performing Pikkon's Theme and the Grand Kai themes (all in one week too, three themes and buh bye!). The Cell Saga had just ended and we were ramping up on the Heaven's tournament when Bruce's and my relationship kinda...uh...reached the point of no return ^^

Huh? But wait, I thought you left the studio on December 1st, 2000...

The Otherworld Arc didn't even begin until Episode 180, which aired in September 10, 2001....

So why in the world were you guys composing for Episodes that wouldn't air until almost a year later?

That's pretty normal actually. You start out wayyyy ahead on the season, but by the end of it, it's actually pretty close. It takes time to produce an entire season.

They may have pushed it out even further since at the end of the Cell Saga we were like mere days ahead of the TV schedule..it was insane. I was working my tail off, I don't think I've worked those kind of hours, even before Kinect shipped!

People might get annoyed when new shows are pumping out, and then all of a sudden reruns start playing..but you gotta remember there are people working their tails off to meet schedule. It's not a fun place to be in, where you are right up against air dates.

EDIT:

Also look at the VHS release date:
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Saiya ... B0000540FI
VHS Release Date: January 23, 2001

(I'm guessing the 1996 thing is the Japanese air date)

In hindsight, I think that Yamamoto should've just plagiarized the Super Metroid and Metroid Prime soundtracks. Composer credit would have gone to "Kenji Yamamoto", so they wouldn't technically be a lie...
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.
Don't forget to slow down and enjoy yourself.

I have the feeling that Yamamoto copied most of Yushi no Gaisen from a certain Touhou Soccer 2 track...
This game was released in... 2006? I think.

That is a parody of a piece of music from an old SNES game, Captain Tsubasa 3.

Ah.
But that might mean that Captain Tsubasa 3 was copied instead.

No, Amazon is just weird like that and says 1996 for all the Dragon Ball Z singles.

Lots of retailers used the 1996 date for the DBZ singles. I'd assume it was because that's when FUNimation's Z dub started airing.

Wow. Bad Yamamoto No Biscuit.

It takes balls to rip off Yoko Kanno, since she's frequently accused of plagiarism as well.

YES! YES YES YES YES. This is the one I've been talking about for YEARS! I couldn't find the god damn name of the song from Budokai -anywhere- and couldn't even find it from just sifting through all of the music in the game. I remember hearing my college roommate in 2007 listening to the Bebop soundtrack and all of a sudden I remembered back to this music during the Kid Buu board game. Ridiculous.

And "Bad Dog No Biscuits" is a ripoff of Tom Waits' "Midtown." Cowboy Bebop has a lot of ripoff tracks, too.

Call of Ktulu wasn't the only song Yamamoto ripped off from Metallica. Not only that, but it's another rip-off from the S&M album:

Burst Limit - Demise

Metallica - Minus Human

I might have found a track where a Yamamoto ripped-off track was actually used as Tribute.
"Werewolf, Baby!" by Rob Zombie (Start at 00:18 until 00:26 where it goes into the short tribute of Rush's "La Villa Strangiato")
"The Formidable Warrior, The Saiyan" (Kai Soundtrack 1)
Coincidence? Or just a flat-out tribute?
Forum quote of the moment:

DBZ bootlegs have the movie 9 cover with the pioneer movie 2 description on the back and the disc actually has a Japanese soap opera in MEPG2.

This is not obvious, but I find little similarity between these. You know, Yamamoto likes to use pro wrestling music as a reference.

Ultimate Battle 22 - Kid Goku's Theme (Original: Super Gokuden Totsugeki-Hen)
Ultimate Battle 22 - Cell's theme

Masahiro Chono's Theme '92 (Pro Wrestling)

I found one of the tweets written by Taku Iwasaki on February 24th. He is known for anime soundtracks.

http://twitter.com/#!/taque68/status/40590611299962880
久しぶりにPropagandaを聴く。そういえば「結界師」Take over the destinyのイントロの決めの部分ってP-Machineryから拝借したんだよねww
He said he borrowed a phrase from Propaganda's P-Machinery when he composed "Take over the destiny", a piece of the Kekkaishi score. It's worth noting that he is the composer of "C" and Yukio Nagasaki served as the director of audiography of that anime, too. Maybe they were talking about Yamamoto's rip-offs since that time.
