Dragon Ball back on the air in Hong Kong beginning October 7
Dragon Ball back on the air in Hong Kong beginning October 7
There seems to be some more confirmation that Dragon Ball is back on the air in Hong Kong beginning October 7th. Rumors began to claim that it was going to be Dragon Ball Kai. But then, more news came out and indications are showing that it's going to be redub of "Dragonball" about to air on TVB's J2 youth specialty channel. Honestly, I don't think a redub is even necessary because the dub (also done by TVB) was good enough on its own.
Anyway, more news will follow as they come.

Redub? As you say, there really is no need to do that. By the way, when did they start the original run of DB in Hong Kong? I've never seen any information about it.

In fact on Dragonball's first run in Hong Kong it was heavily censored by TVB meaning there is no UNCUT Cantonese dub available for DB. Maybe that is the reason why TVB is redubbing itkei17 wrote:Redub? As you say, there really is no need to do that. By the way, when did they start the original run of DB in Hong Kong? For your information DB was first aired in Hong Kong on 1988-2-21. It was after episode 54 (aired on 1989-3-12) where the show got interrupted. TVB later continued to air rest of the episodes (55-153) beginning 1989-9-11 till 1990-9-6.

What about the vcd/dvd release of Dragonball? Because I've heard that they used the TVB dub tracks for those.jubei wrote:In fact on Dragonball's first run in Hong Kong it was heavily censored by TVB meaning there is no UNCUT Cantonese dub available for DB. Turns out the Dragonball redub will be airing right after the first 48 episodes of "Fairy Tail" finishes its run. It's been discussed on TVB's official forums so I think it's safe to say that this is more than confirmed.

The DVD release did use the TVB dub. That is why the DVD sets are censored.tinlunlau wrote:What about the vcd/dvd release of Dragonball? Re: Dragon Ball back on the air in Hong Kong beginning Octob
Ah crud! Guess I'll wait for October to watch Dragonball. And it looks Dragonball Kai will not air on TVB until the Dragonball redub finishes its run on J2. Their current dub of the new Saint Seiya series (The Lost Canvas) is actually pretty decent so far. I was just channel surfing through the Hong Kong channels via http://mybe.tv and lo & behold, Dr. Slump is on right now!!!jubei wrote:[

And since Fairy Tail is on from Monday through Friday, I'm sure Dragonball redub will be the same.
