Least favorite character

Post by vegetaslegacy15 » Mon Aug 15, 2011 12:59 am

Okay, so who's everyone's least favorite character?

Mine is Broly because of the Broly fans and the fact he has no character at all. Plus, Toei makes it seem like he's a bulldozer and the Z warriors are ants.

Broly is pretty damn bad, I could probably write a thesis on how he's essentially the worst character arc of any fictional character I've ever seen. I don't think simply saying he's overrated does him enough justice.

But ignoring Broly I'd say that I never really cared for Oob. By that I mean his GT incarnation, since his Z form barely had any character to really critique or complain about. Unfortunately, GT never changed that.

My least favorite character would be Jeice.

Broly by far. There's no character there whatsoever and he has a pretty ridiculous reason for hating Goku. It doesn't help that there's also three movies that involve him. The first one was pretty good, but the others got progressively worst.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

I... don't have a "least favorite" character. There are a few characters I actually find likeable, maybe ten that I care about otherwise, and then the remaining hundred or so are all characters that I just don't give two craps about.

Well, I don't even considered movie characters part of the real thing so I can't say Broly but all the movie characters are pretty bad. I guess I'd have to say Trunks, he just pisses me off and kind of started the idea that every character after him now had to be 300x Frieza strength to actually be relevant, which made the series make a lot less sense given the feats after that were never as spectacular as that suggested, as Frieza was pretty much a god already.

Broly, Bio Broly and those two things in the fake namek filler.

Son Gohan. Especially in the Saiya-jin arc and after he becomes Saikyou no Senshi.

As you can see on my avatar, it's Broly. But it's not as much as what his character was (although I would count him as the most annoying one), as what his character could be. He was present in three movies without any kind of character growth whatsoever or any change in any kind of intelligence. Neither did he become any more reckless than he was.
They just reused the same character in three whole movies, changing how he looked mostly.

Even though the Legendary Super Saiya-jin is supposed to be bloodthirsty and live for the fight, I don't see any reason to make him to appear dumb and completely uncontrolled.
It would be nice to finally see a Saiya-jin who doesn't think with his muscles for a change, and they blew it.
I mean, many of Goku and Vegeta's mistakes were because of that they didn't seem to think ahead at times, and Broly could easily be made the exeption. Instead of making him a muscular brute, they could have made him both bloodthirsty and calculating (such as Vegeta in Namek!).

Godo, you're right, he didn't have any character growth whatsoever between the three movies. But I think he actually became dumber as the movies went on. In Movie #8, he at least had some dialgoue characterizing his arrogance. In Movie #10, he just yells "KAKARROT!", not to mention that he mistakes Goten for Goku when he fought the real adult Goku before. Put it down to brain damage, memory less or whatever.

But I don't really have a least favourite character. There are characters that I dislike for sure, but even I'm easing up on Broli. I think the reason I hated him so much was because I used to travel in the wrong circles of the DB fandom; you know, the kind that obsessed over battle powers and if you disagreed with them, they'd shove an exploding can of NERD RAEG up your ass. Now, if anything, the amount of Broli hate I read is so constant and repetitive that a comment about LSSJ Broli's power being 10,000,000,000,000 just passes over my head.

While I agree with you his lack of serious growth/deterioration between movies (he does get more unhinged; but it's not executed in an interesting way at all), I really enjoy Broly for all the reasons you hate him. He's a profoundly different villain in the Dragon Ball universe. No quirks, no gimmicks, no cockiness. A relatively down-to-Earth origin, and pure evil without literally being made of evil or some other such mystical thing. Maybe none of that sounds appealing, but stop and think about how much that stands out from everything else in the franchise. Broly is a truly horrifying villain in his first movie, and to a lesser extent in his second one as well.

It's just a shame about his fans/Toei's constantly shoehorning him into every new product.

As for my answer, I don't really hate any characters. There are some minor ones I find more irritating than funny, like the Cell Games announcer. There are some I find dull as dirt, like Super 13. There are even some I have to admit I just don't enjoy that much, and dislike moments in the series that prominently feature them, like child Gohan and future Trunks. But I don't think the series would be better off without them or anything; they do what they need to.

Oh i know right lol. I am going to my doctoral thesis on Broly's suck factor :p. Yeah Uub does suck in GT. His only limelight is fighting Baby Vegeta and he lets his absorb technique be used against him just to punch Baby's insides when hes a Golden ape.

Very true! I thought the first was okay but then again they made him to much of a power house and they were not consistent with the power of the Z warriors. What i mean is they kind of had there power all over the place not making it obvious what period in the manga there supposed to be in.

Broly for me as well.

I like generally every other character. But the dub's voice and dialogue for some characters such as Muten Roshi, Tenshinhan ie had me hating them until I saw the original Japanese.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Gohan, I really dislike the "pull power out of ass when mad" type characters, too cliche, the whole hidden potential thing I found a complete bore.

The only Gohan I found acceptable was Teen Gohan because he actually trained hard to reach SSJ.

I really disliked the whole power-up he got from the elder kai. He didn't even end up saving anything or anyone. I would've found it more interesting if he stayed SSJ2 and tried his hardest using the Z Sword and ended up failing that way because simply he just wasn't strong enough rather than having a 5 second beat down on the villain then have some stupid absorption element come out of nowhere and the odds are completely reversed, it was just all so underwhelming.

Well blame that on Tori's last minute decision that "Hey Gohan isn't such a great lead hero, time to bring out Goku again". Most of Buu arc had that clusterfuck of "Hey he will kill Buu, wait no he didn't, ok time to find a new hero". it did this like 5 times.

Anyway I think who annoyed me most was Babidi, Broly, Bulma and Bardock.

How does that mean he sucks? Underused and underpowered doesnt mean weak and annoying. Plus he had so much power that he oneshotted Rildo.
