Anime DVD are always stupid expensice here. for example i was in HMV the otherday and saw the anime movie "Summer Wars" for £20 for the DVD and £15 for Blueray...what the frak? it turns out its cheaper to import dvd's than it is to actually buy them here.

I guess it must depend on which part of the UK you live in.
For example, I just got the complete Claymore anime for £10 and the complete Berserk set for £25 at HMV. I thought they were pretty reasonable prices.
Anyway, disappointing there’s no release happening. Also, that reply was so rude. What a douche.

What was really dissapointing for me was, that UK Gollancz stoped the release of the US Z part of the manga, when I was seriously in the process of buying the first series.
I hoped at first it's unedited, but the I compared my Piccolo arc volumes with the Japanese tankobon and guess what.
Mr. Popo is missing his sexy lips.

This is true at the moment, including Full Metal Alchemist. The problem is that they come out with really high prices, and then drop dramatically after a few months (I'm not sure if this is due to poor sales, marketing strategy or what). Manga judged the Full Metal Alchemist cancellation on poor immediate sales - but surely a lot of the fans wait for them to go cheaper as it ALWAYS happens (for example, I recently got Summer Wars and Girl Who Leapt Through Time in a double pack on Blu Ray for £7)?Kingdom Heartless wrote:I noticed the same thing with Brotherhood.... I just figured that they couldn't be bothered altering the region codes or something.
And I thought the first Brotherhood was meant to be A+B... why the heck did my copy show up as requiring Region A?
Also, the UK DVDs are meant to be more expensive? Not at all, from what I've seen... I've been buying stuff off Amazon.co.uk lately, and most of their anime is dirt cheap.
It's not so much the decisions they make that really annoy me. I understand this is a business. It's that the company chides its audience on twitter (a large portion of which, I imagine, is young people without significant income) for not buying its high priced items straight away rather than waiting for them to go cheaper. It expects loyalty/support for the company rather than the product, but doesn't treat people in a way that is likely to encourage it.

No. It's not cheaper to import anime.
Summer Wars DVD UK cheapest: £8 http://www.dvdsource.co.uk/product?part ... ner=134472
Summer Wars DVD US cheapest: ~£13.50 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listin ... dition=new
Or, you can get the boxset w/ TGWLTT.

If you're buying anime in HMV or any other store you're doing it wrong, always buy online, especially from Play.com.
Stuff like the two American Death Note boxes from Viz are about $80 (£50) together and the UK complete box set from Manga and Viz with art from the series is about £30 ($50).
It used to be that UK prices were much higher than American due to single volumes being released here as £20 and in America as $20, so we were paying double for some reason, but now out prices are way lower than the US releases, and for series like Bleach, the boxes are much cheaper and have more episodes. Bleach Series 6 from the UK is £27 right now, bound to go down to £10 like all the other 5 boxes, and the US equivalent has less episodes, costs about £20 and the prices never seem to go down.
So the current US Bleach Seasons are pretty much the same as the single volumes in the UK.
I don't know why I keep adding to this... maybe I'm trying to make you jealous.

And it's strange, on Amazon.co.uk, DVDs prices always become like 20% less upon checkout. I have no idea why.

Not complaining at all.Rory wrote:I see no reason to complain.Kingdom Heartless wrote:And it's strange, on Amazon.co.uk, DVDs prices always become like 20% less upon checkout. I have no idea why.

The end result is ridiculous savings... I mean, $149 for Torchwood in Australia, around $40 from Amazon? Alien Anthology on Blu-Ray for under $25? It's insane.
And when it comes to Anime.... I spent $25 on The Girl Who Leaped Through Time/Summer Wars Blu-Ray double, when it would have cost me like three times that to buy through Madman.... and it's the same discs repackaged!

Importing is never cheaper, the customs charge is ridiculous and if you unluckily get a Saturday delivery it costs even more.
Spent £32 extra on a single dvd just because it was imported and it came on a saturday.
Also hearing Brotherhood's cancellation has really annoyed me, was going to start buying them soon.

Yeah. Dude, you're price comparising on for a release that's OOP here.Sshadow5001 wrote:US http://www.up1.co.uk/Details/C0884

And it's a show that Andrew (ex-head of Beez), told me himself that there's gonna be an Anime Legends release of. So if you wait for the around the next MCM, you could probably get it for £17.99, like the TTGL and Code Geass sets. (Which incidentally, are also cheaper than the US imports)
Also. Please, please, please, british people. USE. THIS. SITE. You can quickly check prices from most places (save for Anime-On-Line and UP1. Check those too, they have great deals). And you can set it up to email you whenever it drops in price (You don't even need to sign up! You can login with your Facebook or Twitter if you want)

They've always been interested in picking it up but that tweet just seems to have been posted to try and calm the people (me included) who have been giving them a hard time over their behaviour.

It's only the Blu Rays which have been cancelled (and for Blu Rays, they sucked in the first place).Vegeta Jr wrote:Also hearing Brotherhood's cancellation has really annoyed me, was going to start buying them soon.

Wow, and here I thought Madman changed quite a bit on the cover art for their release. But nonetheless, it's great to see that UK is finally getting a home release, too bad it's not either the Dragon Box (would never happen) or the upcoming Blu-Ray release.

so orange bricks for the UK ?
Re: DBZ Coming to the UK? (Manga Ent. Says "NO!")
Yeah, it's nice that we're getting a release, but it's like 4 years late. Never mind, I guess people in the UK who don't own the series can now buy it with ease.
I wonder what dub it will be?
