Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

This is a new game on the PS2 with character designs from Akira Toriyama, and it looks pretty good. Notice the fat man's hat looks like Dodoria's head. The boy in the middle has a sort of Goku Jr face, and the guy on the end looks a lot like Trunks too! It got 9.0 on IGN, click on the link to see the review.

I may purchase this game. Looks good.

Cell's 2nd form fused with Namek's Elder?

This spark looks a lot like a ki attack.

I reckon there's loads more DBZ type characters that Toriyama stuck in there for laughs.

What do you think of this? Any good?

Sorry, had to post this one, Super Saiya-Jin or not?

Huh...?

Anyway, his designs tend to be very similar, no matter what series he's drawing for. This isn't good or bad, it's just that you can always tell when Toriyama designed a character/costume or not. While yes, this game looks great and I know how wonderful the voice acting is, the playable demo I received in a recent Shonen Jump showed me just how boring and unfun this game is, specifically the combat. I remember playing the original games on NES, and this is the same old thing, only prettier. I haven't got in me to play through an RPG (or any game, in general) unless I find everything absolutely compelling.

What do you mean 'huh?' I didn't mean literally, I meant they just come out a bit.

This is only one of many games that Akira Toriyama did designs for. His work also includes Dragon Quest (or Dragon Warrior in U.S. until now) I-VII, and all of the Dragon Quest spin-off games. The fighting games, Tobal No. 1 and Tobal No. 2, Chrono Trigger and, obviously any Dragon Ball related game. He's also doing the designs for an upcoming Xbox 360 RPG called Blue Dragon.

Thank you, people, for understanding that this is not a Dragon Quest forum.
