There hasn't been a single good DBZ game since Burst Limit, the exception is Ultimate Butouden which tragically is Japanese only.

maybe because now they suck? If they released another quality game with fast paced gameplay that felt deep and grew with you as you played and had good animation then I'm sure they'd sell just as well as the older games. I bought Burst Limit and was disappointed, the drama pieces were annoying and the gameplay felt dull after a while. I passed on Raging Blast, with my friend's opinion, the reviews, and what I saw were all pretty bad. I played the demos for both RB1 and 2 and neither felt as malleable as Tenkaichi. Ultimate Tenkaichi looks like it will be bad with it's repetitive cut-scene battles and overall lack of depth. Tenkaichi was simple, but if you were good at it you could always get the timing and positioning of your vanishes, attacks, and special abilities right so that you could keep getting better endlessly.

Origins and Attack of the Saiyans are both hood games.

Like Raging Blast, Burst Limit was a bad game riding on the coat tails of their predecessors.

Burst Limit was great, it gave us Shin Budokai on consoles with the best graphics a DBZ game has ever seen.

It's only shortcomings was it's small roster and lack of Tournament mode.

Once again, this is all opinionated, and it always will be. Personally, I thought drama pieces slowed down combat, infinite ki was a stupid idea, and I didn't like the graphics... liked the effects, and I liked things done with the graphics (Goku's hair finally rising when he powered up to fight Nappa), but the entire presentation of them as a package didn't impress me, they felt too stylized IMO.

You'll never be able to get everyone on the same page about the games.

Drama Pieces were optional and it wasn't exactly infinite Ki; teleports, transformations and Ultimates all consumed Ki.

I don't see how this is bad.

Also spamming specials is stupid, it invites Teleports and a free combo.

Every time I see kaboom in a conversation, I think he's me. This is quite confusing

[quote="Castor Troy"]I think we need a Dragonball dating sim to add variety to the games.

I agree. Me and my friend were actually discussing a Dragon Ball dating sim the other day. Having the player chose between a few famous characters like Goku, Kuririn, Muten Roshi, and Mirai Trunks just to get all ends of the spectrum covered. You'd get to pick between phrases the characters have actually said or might say to pick up girls. And Yamcha could be your dating coach.

As for fighting games, I'm a freaking huge Capcom and Arcsys (guilty gear) fanboy and would love to see Namco/Bandai take a break and come back with a genuinely good classic styled fighter. Maybe what dragon ball needs is something on the crazier side of things like Smash Bros or Marvel vs Capcom. I don't think the DBZ games we have now are accessibly and hectic like those titles. They also both have massive rosters of characters, but for the most part get by with having very unique fighting engines.

Also I don't think we need Dragonball games with over 50 characters personally, if they chose the right characters. We always end up having like 5 Gohans, 4 Vegeta's and way too many Freeza Henchmen/Androids/Movie Villains. I'd like to see something with a roster as expansive as Ultimate Battle 22 which covers basically every arc equally. And have characters chosen based off who might create the most interesting gameplay experience over who needs to be in the game.

But I'll simply echo what's already been said in thread that a Hiatus is needed, people need to miss Dragonball again so they can repackage it as nostalgic again. "The Quintessential Dragon Ball game, after all this time!" But it still probably needs to have emphasis on being different from what we've already gotten so far.

That's debatable. They're certainly good, but I wouldn't call them "the best".
Vegeta Jr wrote: It's only shortcomings was it's small roster and lack of Tournament mode.
You say this as if they were insignificant trifles. In a market flooded with Dragon Ball Z fighting games, the full story and some sort of tournament mode are things that I expect as the bare minimum. After completing Z Chronicles (which didn't take very long owing to the omission of the Boo arc) and playing a few rounds of Z Trial, I was finished with the game.

Don't misunderstand; what I played was indeed enjoyable, but I wanted more. It seemed as if the developers rushed quite a bit towards the end of the game's production, which is disappointing.

In my opinion, the theme song was clearly the highlight of the game.

Hmm, European sales chart data from Chart-Track (via dabra's thread on [url=

United Kingdom All Formats Chart (Week 43, 2011):

39 (__) 360 Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Namco Bandai Games)

Estimated to have sold under 3000 units in its debut week.

Italy (Week 43, 2011):

09. (__) [PS3] Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Namco Bandai)

Germany (Week 44, 2011):

10. (__) [PS3] Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Namco Bandai Partners)
36. (__) [360] Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Namco Bandai Partners)

I rarely look at European sales charts due to the lack of public numbers, but I don't recall the previous games ever charting. Though, to be honest, I'm not if that has more to do with UT having good sales, or the overall software market being smaller.

So, did UT go well? I'm not used to these things...
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Hey, I'm not sure if you're still around seeing as this was sorta awhile ago, but I just wanted to inform you that not too far back, probably a year or longer ago, Goku's Corner changed to another site, dragonball.namco.com
It's on the forum section (ofcourse). I joined there last March. Maybe you won't see this post, maybe you will...
