Although I probably would've rather that he looked more like Gohan, just to fit better with Freeza's comment that Gohan resembles Raditz.
When was this stated?
When he's in his third form, after recovering from Gohan's attack. He notes how his strength recovered after healing and realizes he's a Saiyan. He wonders who's kid he is, and mentions that something about him reminded him of Raditz.
Huh. Was it in the Manga or Anime?

Although he didn't say that something about him reminded him of Raditz (that sounds vague). He said something like he resembles him.

Perhaps in the anime, but I can't recall him saying that in the manga. Either way, it's just a fancy, arrogant way of saying, "I'm a really, really strong fighter!" It's not as if he said he was an elite Saiyan. In fact, Saiyan class systems wasn't even introduced until Vegeta explained it to Goku before their fight (I'm excluding Nappa's previous comment to Goku about being "an elite warrior of the nobility", because it's not exactly specific and, again, could just mean that he's a really, really strong fighter). Before then, it's just that Vegeta and Nappa were way stronger than Raditz, and they didn't give two shits about him because of that, which isn't surprising coming from a race of planet-conquering warriors whose entire lives revolve around battle, murder and power.
Well, this manga and any other fan thing shouldn't put Raditz down so much. Goku was a weak laughable saiyan, Raditz was conquering planets. I always thought Nappa was a high class noble warrior, cream of the crop and unusual for most saiyans. Raditz is like a regular mid-class soldier who can boast that he is strong. Goku is a peasant with no status at all. That's how I always perceived the different armour styles; Raditz brown and black for soldier, Nappa (who originally was intended with the same colour palette as Raditz) and then Vegeta is royalty with Yell/gold and white (an this gives reason why he could have been given an orange and green suit by Toie as those could be royalty colours). Makes sense to me.

So here it goes:

Royalty - Vegeta
High priests & nobles - Nappa
Middle class and knights - Raditz
Peasants- Goku

I used medieval terms to correspond to classes as I have no idea what would seperate each class on Planet Vegeta.

I feel this comic and other fan fictions place Raditz in the wrong class. Honestly, if he was that weak than he would be no use for Freeza and Vegeta and would have been dead long ago.
I disagree. I don't think that there's a middle-class, just that there's royalty, the nobility and then the peasants, which both Goku and Raditz are in. Basically "strong" and "weak". I don't think Saiyans are the kinds of people to have an intermediate, nor is it ever suggested. Raditz is referred to as "low-class", as was his father Bardock, therefore they are.

As far as we know, Raditz just happened to escape the destruction of Planet Vegeta, for whatever reason, and Freeza likely didn't bother going after him and killing him because he didn't see a low-class grunt like Raditz as a threat, even together with Vegeta and Nappa, who, as well, were far beneath him in power. Remember, Freeza was afraid of a union between the Saiyans, should one or more of them become a Super Saiyan, and, arrogant overlord he is, probably didn't see three Saiyans as a threat, and if he did sense that one of them was growing too much in power, he could just kill them before they posed a threat to him.

I didn't understand what you said.

As far I remember, Freeze realized that Gohan was a saiyajin, and them wonders he is the son of who. Then Freeze says he doesn't resemble in nothing Nappa or Vegeta, but do with Raditz. And then Freeza says it doesn't matter and all saiyans must be eliminated.

OK, I don't know what it is the original, but Viz's translation says this:
Viz's DBZ Volume 10, Chapter 109 wrote:Freeza: Of course...!! He is Saiyan...!! But whose child is he...? I killed every Saiyan but Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz 30 years ago...or so I thought.
[...]
He does not look like Vegeta or Nappa...Raditz's child? Perhaps...there is a resemblance...

Another interesting page. I guess Raditz did see Goku as a child?

I like this, but everyone seems out of character. Bardock probably would've just ignored Raditz, and we know he didn't care much about checking in on Goku.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not sure if Raditz would be so eager about seeing Goku either. I mean, years later, Raditz only happened to remember that Goku was alive and on Earth when he, Vegeta and Nappa needed help conquering a planet.

I would imagine Raditz being smug about it. Like "who cares about that crap..." bad kid at school attitude as we see he's like that on Earth when he fights Goku.

That's the thing. Too much like Goku after he bonked his head. Raditz is/was a smug, arrogant tough SOB.

Doesn't seem like that way to me. Bardock is still the same as ever. He isn't like most other Saiyan father, or any Saiyan for that matter. He has a caring side to him, as shown in the TV special that he loves his comrades. He isn't as cold-hearted as Vegeta when he was still one of Freeza's men, although Bardock still has "so what" attitude. He is still Goku's father. As a father, of course he would go check on Goku.

Bardock didn't give a damn about his weakling son, until he discovered that he would avenge the Saiyan race and restore the concept of Saiyan pride. As for his comrades, he felt some attachment to them (particularly Toma), but would never straight out show it. And yes, you'd think that he'd care enough about his son to check on him. However, in the special he states that visiting his son would be a waste of time, and only does when he's literally in the area (out of curiosity's sake).

Maybe he did care at first, but his attitude over the years changed as a result of him likely losing more of his sanity working under Frieza.

Or, since most Saiyans aren't all cheery since, you know, they're meant for battle, he was always the guy who doesn't give a crap. So, if in Saligir's universe he was like that, well I can see that seeing how it's a fan's universe. Now if we turn it over to the actual universe, if you were constantly killing people and sometimes fighting for your life, I don't think you'd be happy unless you're more insane than the very race you're from. Just some food for thought.
