German Release of DragonBall and DBGT Series announced

Post by hudemx » Tue Aug 30, 2011 5:49 am

Kazé, the german Anime Publisher who released DBZ and the DragonBall Movies on DVD, has announced that they acquired the license to the DragonBall and DragonBall GT TV Series.

In April 2012 they will begin to release DragonBall on 6 DVD Boxsets and in April 2013 the DBGT Serien on 3 Boxsets.

Interesting to note: They announced all 64 Episodes of DBGT for a DVD Release, while only 51 Episodes were shown on german Television.

Wow. FINALLY!
Finally we get the entire Dragonball/Z/GT Universe on DVD. We have waited so long.
I hope the GT boxes contain all 64 episodes dubbed and not only the 51 that were aired in 2006 with the 13 episodes comprising most of the Shadow Dragon saga missing.

That's cool. I liked the packaging for the German Z boxsets (for the most part) hopefully these will be similar.

Yes I know. Animania has stated that, although Kazé hasn't even confirmed ANYTHING about the boxsets yet (which master, if all episodes etc..) I truly hope we get the 13 lost episodes dubbed because the studio (MME Studios Berlin) that dubbed DBGT said they dubbed all 64 episodes uncut on numerous occasions already, while RTL2 said they only dubbed 51.
So it's kind of a mystery untill Kazé confirms it.

Yeah I am good hopes that we will get all 64 episodes uncut dubbed because let's get real here: Kazé won't sell even one box if we get the massacred cut version with 13 episodes mising. Seriously no one will buy that.

I wouldn't say that. At least Spain, France and Italy got pretty good releases.

Besides that, a lot of German fans are happy with this edited, poor quality, dub only stuff. Sounds crazy, I know, but most of these fans grew up with this bastardize version on TV (I grew up with the dub of the original DragonBall as well and I have nostalgic feelings for it, but I think it's pretty bad anyways).

The anime market in Germany is simply said weak. It's certainly growing and mainstream releases like DB will help it.
I think Germany got the most bastardized version of GT there is.

Wait a minute, are we sure it's dub-only? After all, 11 episodes weren't dubbed. So if this is a dub-only release, then that technically means they would have to go back and dub the 11 episodes that they didn't air. So that leaves us with a few possibilities.

1) It will be a dub-only release, and the 11 episodes that were not dubbed will now be dubbed.
2) It will be a bilingual release, and the 11 episodes that were not dubbed will now be dubbed.
3) It will be a weird hybrid release where the 11 episodes that were not dubbed will be sub-only.
4) It will be a weird hybrid release where the edited scenes/episodes are not dubbed. When the German language track is selected, it will temporarily switch over to the Japanese audio track with German subtitles to maintain the uncut video track, and then switch back to the German audio track upon completion of the edited scene/episode. This would be exactly what happened with the French and Spanish releases. They've received uncut releases, but not uncut dubs.

In any event, this will be interesting.

I think this makes sense, TheBlackPaladin:
because the studio (MME Studios Berlin) that dubbed DBGT said they dubbed all 64 episodes uncut on numerous occasions already, while RTL2 said they only dubbed 51.
So it's kind of a mystery untill Kazé confirms it.

Seeing how DBZ was cut, dub only, plus it obviously sold, I don't see why Kazé would bother making more efforts for lesser popular series.

Indeed....very interesting. I'll be waiting.

How is the German releases compared to the Spanish ones? Because I've heard that Spain's GT boxes were like, [almost?] as good as the Dragon Box GT set; the Spanish dub was even a bonus, since it's pretty damn good from what I've heard.

The Spanish GT dub is not "pretty damn good", yes you can say it's funny because chibi Goku has a completely unfitting voice, and they call the Kamehameha something completely different, but that doesn't make it "pretty damn good."
