Haven't checked all the shots, but it looks like at least the shot with Goku and the Hell guys is actually zoomed out from the Dragon Boxes. Is this the "extra footage" from the Season Sets, except all around?!
Ooh, I just can't wait for this release
EDIT: Yep, all screens of Blu-ray footage shows more than the Dragon Boxes, though not quite as much extra "wide" footage as Season Sets.

Well, JPEG is murder on grain, so I can't really comment on the grainy appearance of this much, but it looks quite a bit grainier than the Dragon Boxes. Enough to be distracting, unlike the Dragon Box. Again, though, JPEG can make grain look much worse than it really is, so I can't really do any real commenting until we get lossless shots.

I dunno - I wouldn't call it murder... just for fun I took this shot from my Bluray of another old anime with grain:
And made a JPG from it at roughly half of the size as the ones they posted online.

(264 KB - where as some of the DBZ Bluray shots were around 500 KB)
There isn't THAT much of a difference in the JPG and the raw shot. Although the film may have been shot on 32mm film, which reduces the effect of the film grain... but still, I'm betting those shots aren't that far off of the final product.
I will say I
love how the Bluray release makes the Dragon Box release look like it's over saturated (in the HFIL shot).

Holy shit. Although these are jpegs, I'm genuinely impressed, FUNimation! I would've never thought in a million years that they'd leave the grain intact. The coloring isn't bad, either. I wasn't entirely interested in these sets before, but now I look forward to future updates.

Agreed, I think these may honestly be a serious competitor to the Dragon Box. Of course, I'll wait for lossless PNGs to see, but it looks great so far.

Wow, those look very good, even better that they left the grain alone.

I think it's a safe bet to say it'll be Region A.
If you're not here soon... GET ON!

Those Orange Brick shots look very suspicious to me. Like, they seem way too sharp and clear. So I eagerly await any lossless shots from the bricks that anyone can provide. I haven't listened to the podcast, but did FUNimation provide all those screenshots themselves?
I remember the last time FUNimation provided their own comparisons (when hyping up the Orange Brick remastering years ago), there was a lot of misleading (and even fake?) shots and footage from them.
So while the Blu-ray shots and the info about it do seem very promising, I'm still feeling a bit cynical about all this.

I'm hoping it'll be A+B like Kai...
There's no way for us to know stuff like this, it is most likely to be Region A but Funi has quite a few Region A+B titles, dob't they?

Japan has the same Bluray Region as the USA, so there is nothing preventing the Japanese from buying these sets from the get go.
With that out of the way, it would be awesome if it was a Region A and B like the Kai sets (and it would also be lucrative for Funi) since many in Europe would probably buy them.
If they added some european subtitles for the original audio, they would definitely sell over here.

Uh...what? They look pretty blurry to me.

So, I just finished listening to ANN's podcast (link on last page) and there were a few interesting tidbits, so I'd recommend it to anyone who's curious about FUNimation's DVD/Blu-ray process, and for a little more information on DBZ's Blu-ray remaster.
I was a little disappointed that all they mentioned were the video aspects. There was absolutely nothing on the audio end; will we get a lossless Japanese mono track...? We'll have to wait and see. Something else that disappointed me was that FUNimation seems to have little to no interest in alternate angles (for any release), so purists shouldn't expect original Japanese title cards. It would seem that, although these Blu-ray sets appear to be anything but rushed, there are still a few reasons to own the Dragon Boxes. There is still no mention on which recaps, eye-catches, or episode previews will be included, if any.

I'm not able to listen to the podcast atm. What were some of the tidbits they mentioned?

Well, I was mostly referring to their processes -- from start to finish -- of remastering a product through delivering it to the fans. A few of the
DBZ Blu-ray-specific tidbits are as follows:
- Apparently, this is the most time they've spent on any series, yet! It really does appear to be a frame-by-frame remastering process this time.
- They are checking for out-of-focus frames
- Capturing as much of the intended picture as possible during the scanning
- The coloring is supposedly close to the original source
- Getting rid of judder
If I think of anything else that was mentioned, I'll post it later, if someone else doesn't do it first.

It's possible there's a problem with my eyes or my monitor (or both), but I just don't see blurriness at all. The Nappa image looks especially clear.

People who don't like grain won't be pleased, but the image is sharper than Kai. Look at the black lines on the image of Nappa. Now, if only the bitrate is really high, this should be a good release. I wonder if the slight audio delay found in the DBoxes will exist or not. Were they there in the Orange Box? I'll have to verify it later tonight I guess. I'm excited about this now.
Wow, grain everywhere. Looks great, but not what I expected from an HD transfer, even if it was unavoidable.

It's an HD Transfer. You should've expected the grain to be more apparent considering this is 16mm film for a show that started in 1989 and HD shows everything in greater detail.
