Sorry for the vague title, but I didn't really know what to call it (at least, something that doesn't sound cumbersome).
Do you like the idea that was introduced in the Bardock special of Zarbon being the one who influences Freeza's plan to eradicate the Saiyans? Or do you think it demeans the, for lack of a better word, importance of Freeza deciding to destroy the Saiyans (perhaps even contradict it, since only Freeza is mentioned to be afraid of the Saiyans teaming up and rebelling against him, with no mention of Zarbon suggesting it).
Zarbon: Freeza-sama, we have just received word that Planet Kanassa has been conquered. We have acquired it fully one month sooner than had been forecast.
Dodoria: Who was it we sent to take over Kanassa?
Zarbon: Some nameless lower-class Saiyan warriors.
Freeza: Saiyans?
Dodoria: These latest guys have been working pretty hard, don’t you think?
Zarbon: There’s certainly something remarkable about them.
Dodoria: Particularly when it comes to Vegeta, their prince, with whom Freeza-sama has taken such an interest. I can’t hardly believe a kid like that has such a battle power.
Zarbon: It’s more than just him. Individually, there’s nothing special about them, but when they team up, they demonstrate incredible power.
Dodoria: What are you afraid of?
Zarbon: Nothing. I just think that if we leave the Saiyans alone like this, it will mean a lot of trouble for us later on. You never know when another guy like Vegeta may appear. Let’s suppose they were to team up against us.
Freeza: You think they might become unpleasant, then?
Zarbon: Aye.
In that conversation, Freeza barely makes an input and just seems to be influenced by Zarbon, his right-hand man subordinate to him.

It's hard to truly say that that in particular influenced Freeza, particularly since Zarbon wasn't saying anything directly to him at that time.
It is always possible that Freeza had already decided on destroying the planet long before this point and was just waiting for the right moment.

They don't call the show Dragon Ball "Z" for nothing.

Well I think Freeza decided it by himself. Maybe when Zarbon said it, he decided to do it that moment, instead of later.

IMHO he said out loud what was in the air.

I think it's egregiously stupid that, if there really had been a legend of the "Super Saiyan" passed down among Freeza's clan for generations, he didn't think twice about hiring the Saiyan race when he first came across them.
"Oh, you guys are called Saiyans? There's a millenia old legend in my family that one of you will turn gold and be the most powerful being in the universe. Come work for me."
And then, Jesus, there's the whole irony of Freeza being the reason Goku remained on Earth to train, etc., destroying Planet Vegeta before anyone could check on him. That kind of goes out the window if Goku is just the son of the first Super Saiyan. Without the manga special, Freeza's own paranoia is ultimately his downfall. With the manga special, that paranoia becomes reasonable suspicion based on family information, and Bardock's super sperm is his downfall. Yikes.

Um...I was talking about the Bardock TV special, not Episode of Bardock.
