The biggest reveal so far is that they apparently renegotiated with Toei to get a better film print?

I have to go for dinner, but someone should ask them if they'll be including the original Japanese title cards and such with the bluray.

Make ... ?
Well, like I said, it was probably just as joke. He was asked what he'd wish for with the Dragon Balls and he said "More Dragon Ball Z" and mentioned he'd been trying to work with Toei/Shueisha on that aspect. It could've been a flub on his part.

Well my thoughts on the interview are sort of mixed. It was nice to see Sabat interviewed, but other than that, a lot of questions were left unanswered. All they talked about was how good the blu-rays are and the special features. I am sort of surprised that they actually mentioned the Ocean dub...... I wasn't expecting it. But overall the interview was just...... bleh. It seems like they did the interview just to test out the live broadcast on Youtube thing. :?

Pretty much that the blu-rays won't have the Ocean dub. It was to be expected so I don't know why it was even addressed.
AnimeMaakuo wrote:That was sort of a pointless interview. Not trying to be rash or anything, but they left a bunch of important questions left unanswered.

It would of been better if they did an in-depth question period from the fans, especially for events like these.
My thoughts exactly.

Ya, it wasn't the greatest set of interviews but it was enjoyable. It gives me hope for the future that they'll do more of them.

These extra features brought to you by Chris Sabat's closet!

By the way, you guys can watch the interview. It was recorded onto FUNi's YouTube channel. Here's the Fukunaga portion!

I'm eagerly anticipating this release. Just ordered the two sets off RightStuf. They're only $21 now!

Although I really want to buy these, I think I'm still gonna wait it out and see if these will be released on whole levels, similar to Kai. From what I could make out on the interview, these are going to have the American music in HD quality or something. That is a plus for me since I was relying on these to have the American music. Hopefully they will have English title cards, or better yet: Alternate angles! I know most of you want Japanese title cards, but I already have the Dragon Boxes for all of the Japanese qualities of Z, and I have yet to own a release with all the American qualities. Oh well we're just gonna have to wait and see.

So are we getting a Dub + Falconer TRUEHD and Dub + Kikuchi Stereo or what? He mentioned three tracks, obviously said audio track isn't the intent of these sets, but I don't know why Funi would put two versions of the same dub track on a disc in 2011 like they did on the Movie singles. If I'm wrong, anyone mind telling me the purpose that serves? Wouldn't the 7.1 (?) track scale down to Stereo on a Stereo TV/computer?

It was kind of mentioned both ways. They said the dub in 7.1 and 2.0 would be on there, but also said 'pretty much all the same stuff on the orange bricks would be on there.' Which I'm guessing to mean we'll also get the dub with the Japanese score.

I'm guessing it's basically the same cut of cheese that we got with the orange bricks only with a few extras and better video? :?

What more do you want? The worst thing about the orange bricks is the video quality. With these blu-ray releases, not only is that issue being dealt with, but it's being dealt with in a proper way. The video quality for these may even be better than Dragon Box footage.

FUNi is spouting that "original film masters" BS again for these sets? Yeah... We know what the original film looks like, and we have that on the Dragon Boxes. Why don't the Blu-ray's colors look like the Dragon Boxes more, and instead look like the film they've been using from the beginning?

Yeah, I like how Gen Fukunaga insists that the film for the Blu-ray transfer is the original, not the same one they've been using since the beginning of Funimation's existance. And then 10 minutes later Matt O'Hara comes in and says the exact opposite.

Oh man, I only posted that as soon as I saw Fukunaga say that, then went to eat, so I was unaware of O'Hara's direct contradiction of that statement right afterward!

The weird thing is that he mentioned there were extra negotiations around these new film masters, so you have to wonder who's right exactly, and if Gen was mistaken and thinking about the Dboxes or what. O'Hara's the technical guy, so he probably knows more.

Mind you, I think this is an honest mistake and not them trying to mislead anyone.

Also, the video's up on the Tubes of You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atTdTl3UOzI
