You're not really making a lot of sense. I know what they are; they dropped those because they changed their mind and started another -- more profitable -- release. That doesn't mean that Japan didn't approve the product though.

Glad to see you got everything sorted out.

Down with Madman!, our shiny Australian dollar is better spent elsewhere!.
I can understand your frustration with some of their Anime releases, but that's not the only thing they do as a company, you know.
Oh my mistake, I forgot they also distribute Manga and the occasional foriegn film both at over inflated prices .

My issue with Madman is their pricing, and the quality of their products, I see no point in paying more for at best the same product, or at worst an vastly inferior version.

Because of this there's very little to talk about, since as previously mentioned, we've all seen these episodes a billion times.
You sound like you don't care. But, for the rest of us who are eagerly anticipating the quality results of the Blu-Rays and who got burned with the orange bricks, this matters. Any development at this point is good development and having someone give us the 411 on what the presentation of the Blu-Rays were at Anime Weekend Atlanta could've really helped get the ball rolling even further on this release.

However, since nobody has popped in to say they had, we're back to speculation. :(

I still wish that FUNimation had apologized for that inconvenience. It's still painful to think how much money the more dedicated fans put up for that release.

Yeah, when it comes to Madman's foreign films, generally I can buy the movie three times over on Blu-Ray from Amazon UK for the same price it would cost to buy it from Madman on regular DVD.

Although I was interested to see they have started selling The Walking Dead merchandise.

I think Madman's issue is that they would probably do just as good business if they had reasonable prices. When they do their extremely rare sales, their site traffic is incredible. And that's just from them selling at the around the same price it would to buy from Amazon.

I'd love to be able to support the local releases, but they are beyond unreasonable with prices. My only regret is that I dealt with their products and prices for so long.

Well if they do turn out to be better then what would have been the point of getting the DBOXs if something even better comes out right after them?

The same point as getting the Orange Boxes for many people. You must not see the trend here though--

Single DVDs --> UUEs --> Orange Boxes --> Dragon Boxes --> BluRays

Each one was slightly better than the previous version and each one was bought up by a lot of fans. If we are going to pay for DBZ, then Funi is going to crank it out. And let's face it, 10 to 15 years from now when DVDs are tomorrow's equivalent of VHS tapes, how will Funi make money from DBZ without putting it on Bluray?

Green Ray technology is next for Dragon Ball Z... IN EPIC 4K RESOLUTION!!!

But seriously, with what FUNimation is supposedly doing with taking the film masters and literally going frame-by-frame... I could say that this will be the film stock even Toei may want for future re-releases, and in other countries.

EDIT: Updated the first page with "Current Knowns" and removed certain "Current Unknowns". Still wondering if Franko is still involved with the remastering...

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

Can you imaging the franchise being seen like that in such clarity? My goodness, imagine the guy from "Raiders of the Lost Arc" who's face melts. Exactly!

Last I heard, you can't get more detail than 1080p off 16mm. You could probably get the movies (which are 35mm) on 4k though, yeah.

Yeah, I was reading up on the resolutions, and some studios are actually restoring and mastering film in 8K digital files. That way, when a new format comes out they don't have to constantly update. I'm still learning about video technology and what's the highest resolution certain film stocks can be updated to.

If what you said is true Puto, it wouldn't stop some companies to restore onto higher and better formats for profit even if you don't gain anything at all.

Well, the Dragon Boxes are limited-only releases. They won't be around after Blu-rays are in the stores. Toei apparently made the deal with Funimation that once they acquire the rights for DBOX, they would only be limited so hardcore fans who were disgusted with the Orange Bricks can get proper releases. The Dragon Boxes are the most complete releases with Next Episode previews, Japanese title cards, etcs, while the Blu-ray might not, but the Blu-rays are gonna be in the stores for as long as they are still in print.

Edit: I have a feeling that the Blu-ray was also behind Toe, not jus Funimation.

While I don't dispute that this is a possible scenario, is there a source behind this... "apparent" deal you speak of? o_O

I'm really curious about this release. However, I do expect these to later on be bunched up into bigger sets for less money. I think for anyone who has already invested in the dragon boxes (which I assume is pretty much all of us) it's better to just hold out and wait.

I would be really upset if the faulconer music isn't on here, since that would be the justification for me to pick it up.

Why wouldn't it be? They've already announced that it would.

Yes. The interview stated that these would have the same audio choices as the orange bricks.

He'll still be out of luck if he meant that he wants Faulconer music in eps. 1-67, though.

I think everyone is aware that Bruce Faulconer didn't compose the music for episodes 1-67, Kiddo.
