+1
So I've been thinking lately that this forum need some sort of +1 system. This is, of course, just a suggestion and it may have already been thought over, but I think it would really be a nice feature if posters could show their appreciation for a posts just by clicking a +1 button. I find myself in that situation quite a few times, when I really appreciate a response, or really enjoy what a poster had to say, and I have no means of demonstrating this appreciation other than with a redundant post. This would also help browsers on the forum to see which posts are the most helpful or most popular. Again, this is just a suggestion, so if this has already been discussed and ruled out, then I apologize.

Re: +1
While I understand why such a feature could potentially be interesting, my opinion as a longtime member is that NOT having access to something like that further encourages meaningful discussion and interaction beyond what relying on a points system could provide. If you appreciate what a fellow member says in relation to the topic (or likewise simply enjoy / agree with the content of a particular post), then I see no reason that a well-crafted response of words can't be a great way to say so-- it makes for a bigger and better effort than simply clicking a "like" key, and further enhances the shonen atmosphere of this place as a whole. Your post is only as redundant as you make it.
There's also the possibility that a +1 system could inadvertently become some weird popularity contest, which definitely does not suit my personal concept of these forums.
Again, though... my opinion. Others are most welcome. ^_^

No need for this site to become a onemanga forum clone.
Re: +1
Wow, this is a good idea. Basically people could +1 posts they agree to. This should really help in heavy debates when there's only a matter of opinion. It's interesting to see to which opinions/theories the most people in here agree.
For keeping it under management, there could also be a -1 function. And the popularity of posts would only be displayed when it reaches a certain amount of +1s.
Really wouldn't hurt to have such feature. In fact, IMHO, people may actually try to make as much sense by posting as they can if they wanted +1s.

Re: +1
I don't think there's a need.
If this forum was messed up, I would support the idea, but most of the guys here behave theirselves and make good posts.

I think I've got to agree with Lemmy here. I personally don't like the idea of this forum becoming some strange popularity contest. Plus, I would imagine some users (and maybe even guests too, depending on how the system would work on here) would likely abuse the system and cause posts that don't really contribute anything to become "popular".
Like Lemmy said, your post is only as redundant as you make it. In fact, I'll go as far to say that not having a +1 system actually encourages users to post more worthwhile posts and create a worthwhile discussion.
So personally, I say no. That's just my opinion though.

I also agree with Li'l Lemmy and Shiyonasan. Anyone can just press a +1 button with no effort or consideration, even if they don't particularly like a post that much. It would remove the significance of an articulate, well-thought post if everyone just started +1ing it.

Re: +1
This is a discussion forum, if we approve with what someone says we can just reply. It seems a bit lazy to just +1 something rather than to actually reply. This isn't a Facebook page or Reddit, it's an actual forum.
Re: +1
Even if this was implemented, not sure I would use it. If I don't think I can make a worthwhile post, I'm just going to leave the thread/page.
Also, I've always felt functions like these on forums make the page look unnecessarily cluttered.

Re: +1
I don't think it's a good idea, especially if a -1 type system goes along with it that can literally bury a post. Every voice should be heard equally. Discussion is better than approval. I simply don't see a need for it.

You guys are making some really good points. I never really thought about how this would affect the intelligent conversations that take place on these discussion forums. Oh well, I guess this is definitely a no go.

Actually no. I've been trying to log in, but I'm not 18 yet. I got this idea from seeing 3 or four posts on this forum quoting someone and saying nothing but "+1".

Re: +1
Heh, wow. That actually did stun me into silence for a few seconds. The thread about this option is nearly unanimously shot down, yet apparently members of the forum are doing it already, which is why the option was suggested in the first place. Hehe, I don't even ever do that, but it still makes me feel a bit silly...

Re: +1
Despite having read all the negative opinions regarding the matter, I'd still appreciate a "Popular Post" feature. Basically the reputation of the post wouldn't be displayed until it's received enough +1s to be treated as popular.

Re: +1
I think good posts speak for themselves. I mean, isn't it obvious when a post is really thorough and informative?
It also seems like it could lead to alienating people. Like, someone says, "I hate the dub. Sean Schemmel is a poopoo face." Then lots of people vote that up, but hardly anyone votes for another person saying, "I hate the original. Masako Nozawa is a doodoo head." So then you have numerical evidence to make people feel unpopular or unliked for being in the minority.
Also, like Time Traveller said earlier, you can basically accomplish the same thing by quoting someone and explaining what you like or dislike about what they said. And that meshes better with the focus of this forum: to discuss things in detail.

Really good posts also end up as podcast topic segments

Re: +1
Everyone keeps going on about how "this is a conversation forum", There is another forum I go on that allows picture sigs, big avatars, the ability to change your member rank to whatever you like stupid off topic posts etc. Yet there is just as much (sometimes more) conversation in the threads of that forum as there is here. So I am all for a +1 system as it would probably barely effect anything and would (as the person who came up with this idea said) would help with finding helpful posts and it would be useful to people who can't think of anything better to wright then LOL.
