Dragon Ball/ Wal-Mart Sets

Post by MoltenMan » Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:36 am

I'm ordering Dragon Ball seasons 1 & 2 off of the Walmart website, they're both seasons for $27.96, and was wondering if anyone knows if they're packaged together like the Dragon Ball Z orange brick sets? The picture on the website just shows them side-by-side.

Somebody posted a photo of them once, though I don't remember where. It is not like the DBZ sets. It's just the two seasons with their own cardboard sleeves, cellophane wrapped together with a barcode sticker on the outside covering the barcode on the inside.

Ah, ok.

After many failed attempts at collecting all of Dragon Ball Z and all things related on some sort of media format, I've decided I'm going to do my best to get everything on DVD. The Dragon Ball sets that Wal-Mart bundle together are a pretty good deal. I should be able to get all of those no problem. GT being available all in one set shouldn't be a problem.

Dragon Ball Z though, I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle that. I've seen and heard the horror stories of the orange brick sets, I even owned the first four at one time, and now know the Dragon Box sets are the way to go I know, but I'll be darned if that fangled second volume is so hard to find now. That type of stuff ALWAYS happens to me when I'm finally ready to jump on something. I have the first set, I got as a Christmas gift a year ago, but having a heck of a lot of trouble locating the second set.

It'd be nice to have a full run of everything on top of my computer desk. These VHS sets have been up here for eons. :D

EDIT:

Here's the link I think Innagadadavida was referring to:

You can get box 2 for like 50 on Amazon. Yeah, it's expensive, but if you've got the money, I would go for it. It'll be better than waiting and possibly never getting it.
Also, the Blu-Ray sets will be in 4:3. I don't know if you have a BD player, but those are looking all right so far.

I've had it in mind to get a Blu Ray player for a while now. I'd like to hold off til Black Friday to see if I can find a good deal.

I WANT to get excited about those Blu Ray releases of Z, but I'd like to wait til the first volume comes out and people review and do all their tech rigamarole to it. I figure if I give it enough time, they'll starting sticking some of those sets together. I don't know why they insist on 1.1, 1.2, etc releases.

Ordering from other sellers on Amazon makes me a little nervous. I'd go as high as $50 for that set, but I wish I could make sure it's in the condition described.

EDIT:

WOAH! Hold the phone. GoHastings hasn't been listed on there all those other times I checked that page. You link it today and they're on top. I think I may just jump on that then. Thanks for posting that at the right time. It's a -little- over what I wanted to pay for it, but since it seems to be so hard to find now I think I'll get it.

Yeah, a piece of advice: do not order from GoHastings. Many people on this forum, myself included, have had trouble with them sending damaged or wrong items. I ordered the Ultimate Uncut starter set and got some random disk with Gohan's wilderness training.
I'm hoping Walmart will bundle them together eventually, perhaps a complete level 1 with 34 episodes. Get level 2 and 3.1, you'll be at 85 episodes, right where Dragon Box 3 starts.

GAH!! I just ordered from them! I'm cancelling. I'm not spending that much money just to gamble whether or not it's the right item in brand new condition...

EDIT:

Just cancelled. WHEW! I just remembered too, about a year ago, I ordered a Xbox 360 hard drive from Amazon, and they were the seller, when I got it, it was the PAL version of the hard drive. It would of worked fine, like a NTSC drive, but I thought that it was weird that they would sell them and not really tell anyone it's not even from this country.

That's a good idea, that next seller has it for a penny more.

Now I've never really had a problem with Amazon. Usually if I order something I make sure it's supplied and shipped by Amazon. If I were to order something from another seller, affiliated with Amazon, is that too risky? Do a lot of people have problems?

Some people do. I personally never have, besides GoHastings.

This might sound stupid, but if GoHastings suddenly have stock (they sure didn't yesterday, I checked this page a bazillion times and they were never listed), I wonder if Amazon could be getting some soon.

It's hard to tell, for me anyway, if set 2 really isn't printed anymore or if they're just slow in manufacturing more. So strange to have all the others so readily available (the new ones would be kinda obvious) but just THAT ONE be so hard to find.

I hate spending a lot of money to get the things I want. XD

EDIT:

*sigh*

Looking at the Blu Ray trailer, I think it's something I'll just have to keep an eye on. I guess it may end up being work it, just got to wait and see. I wish some new details would come out though.

When you put it in a cart, it says it's backordered. Thanks though. I'll keep an eye on them anyway.

I've never had a problem with Hastings. I ordered the first Ocean dub box set from GoHastings and it arrived exactly as described with no problems at all. I've explained before how GoHastings works, and therein lies the issue, I believe. When you order from GoHastings, you're not ordering from a warehouse, you're literally buying product off the shelf of any of their retail outlets across the country. So essentially, damage to the box is the result of customer mishandling or minimum-wage apathy. The good news is, their Customer Service is great. I've never had a problem getting a fast and helpful response. I like Hastings quite a bit and I recommend them.

I know the original question seems to have been passed by a bit, but my local Wal-mart has the sets asked about in the OP. They're not exactly just the two seasons shrink-wrapped together. It's the inner individual digi-packs of the two seasons, with a new double wide slipcover over the top. I'll snap a pic on my phone next time I'm at the store so people can see them exactly. I think my local one has the 1/2 set and the 3/4 set.

Has anyone seen any more of these for later seasons?

Edit to clarify: I'm referring to the Z sets.

Are you talking about Dragon Ball or Z? The couple Walmarts I went to over the weekend had the Dragon Ball Z orange bricks packaged that way, with the larger slip cover covering two bricks.

With Dragon Ball seasons 1 & 2 on it's way to Walmart to be picked up (site-to-store), when I get paid this week I'll send an order out for seasons 3 & 4 together and order 5 in the same order. Then I'll have all of Dragon Ball and have gobs to watch while I get all the other stuff. The GT set I may just pick up over the weekend.

You're correct, I'm referring to Z. Sorry if I missed that  I thought you were just asking if the website Z sets were like the store Z sets.

I would love to know if they've done that for the blue bricks, though. That would be really interesting to see.

I believe, from what's been said here, that the blue bricks have only ever been packaged with two sets sandwiched together with plastic around them as a whole. As seen in this thread:

Thanks for the link! I wonder if it's Wal-mart doing the shrink-wrapping to move out their overstock? Maybe they got the idea from seeing the Z double sets, as I think it's safe to say Funi would have had to do the redesign on the slipcover.

I doubt it has anything to do with clearing stock. IIRC, they had listings for the Season 3&4 bundle before Season 4 came out.
