Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Anyone notice in the trailer that the "old footage" side of Head Cha-La there were the Japanese subs and on the right they were gone?
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
You sound surprised. I would imagine we're getting creditless opening, English credit ending.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Yeah, a bit hard not to notice.Kendamu wrote:Anyone notice in the trailer that the "old footage" side of Head Cha-La there were the Japanese subs and on the right they were gone?
It's not a fair comparison, though, as the OP w/ credits is from 16mm film, while the textless OP is from 35mm (at least that's what Kei said earlier on in this thread). They should be using in-episode footage for comparison shots.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Do we have an actual HD trailer that's IN HD? Because I love the way my Dragon Boxes look, and HD is possibly the only reason I'd go with these, so I'd have to be able to actually see what it looks that way...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Also since these are BLU-RAYS...is there ayway to make and mix the Japanese audio to a higher quality?
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Not with the Masters FUNi has I don't think.
Unless Toei lets them use the DBox masters. And even then they're not too good.
DBox is the best DBZ will ever sound in its native language. Barring VHS Rips of the initial broadcast.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Iv noticed that the videos are in 720p 8 bit color (Really compressed as well) and and blu ray is 32 bit and 1080p with blu ray compression. so it looks a little flushed out. Oh well. I have a feeling that we wont get a good Idea what it will look like un tell it actually comes out.

Ya they used the original film then superimposed the letters on-top of it onto the next generation master that was used for the dbox. The original opening film doses not contain them.Kendamu wrote:Anyone notice in the trailer that the "old footage" side of Head Cha-La there were the Japanese subs and on the right they were gone?

when was this confirmed ?
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
That's what the orange bricks already had...

Saw the trailer. It looks awesome in screencaps, but from what I saw in the trailer, I got an Ocean-ish vibe from it. Either way, it looks great, way better than the bricks. The trailer was good too, he focused on the actual DVD unlike the brick trailers where the narrator is in your face about how this is the "Ultimate Remaster" or some stupid shit like that.

Definitely a nice looking trailer. So I am just going to guess that dvd to blu ray feature is the one that we saw at Otakon?

Found a slightly in-depth interview with the FUNi crew that were at NYCC: http://m.examiner.com/exNewYork/pm_7225 ... d=3b4qPjp9
Interesting tidbit on how originally they were adapting from the Spanish dub.

Maximum is 4:4:4. BD uses 4:2:2 which is 8-bit color.SSJMan wrote:Iv noticed that the videos are in 720p 8 bit color (Really compressed as well) and and blu ray is 32 bit and 1080p with blu ray compression. so it looks a little flushed out. Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
DB DBox color corrections & DBox color corrections.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I hate those side by side comparisons because they're always insincere. This isn't even limited to FUNi. It's just universally a problem with the format since you can't have half the screen at one resolution and half the screen at another. As useful a marketing tool a side-by-side can be, whenever I see one I'm immediately turned off to the "sell."
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
That's a really cool trailer. It's very reminiscent of the old Toonami trailers, actually. From the timing to the choice of titling style and music editing.
My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.

How the heck is Blu-Ray 8 bit color? I clearly have no idea how color depth works.ect5150 wrote:Maximum is 4:4:4. Color depth in video is measured 'by color', not overall.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:How the heck is Blu-Ray 8 bit color? I clearly have no idea how color depth works.
That means each color has 8 bits to work with.
8 bits means each color has 256 possibilities (0-255).
That gives slightly under 17 million colors combinations to work with (16,777,216 specifically.)

Well, the trailer is obviously not Blu Ray so you will never truely now how it looks and how the audio is till it is in a Blu Ray player.funrush wrote:Saw the trailer. Information is information I guess, but I wish I could get some clarification on the audio track, whether it'll have the commercial bumpers or the previous/next episode previews. Unless it has and I just didn't see it.
Hate when something is so close to coming out and I feel like I know next to nothing about it.
