Kinda curious where the... well, I guess "curiosity" behind Toriyama and other dubs comes from. As others have pointed out, it's always been somewhat obvious to me that he was so incredibly hands-off, that he likely never had much of an opinion of much. And by "much", I mean "anything at all ever".
Part of me sees it as hardcore dub fans wanting justification for liking what they like ("If the author was OK with it, that's good enough for me!"). I can speak from personal experience that after digging further into questions I've received from English dub fans, that's what's boiling down underneath in many cases. I would never paint that globally across all dub fans, though (English or otherwise), but it's definitely floating around in the back of my head when I read things like that.
I'm sure a lot of it is just general curiosity, which I totally get and respect.
And I'm totally on-board with breaking out "recluse" from "dedicated worker". The two may (and likely do) cross, but they're not inherently one-in-the-same.
