Spreading through my body, feel the power run through my soul
Kicked in the face, the Earth is mad to a boiling point (boiling point)
Can't you feel a volcano ready to blow.
If I ever found a dinosaur, in the thawed polar ice
I'd wana train him to ride a ball
CHA-LA, HEAD CHA-LA
No matter, if ever anything should happen
Nothing would stop me now!
CHA-LA, HEAD CHA-LA
Oh my heart just keeps sparking up like a Spirit Bomb
Oh yeah it gets me fired up!
SPARKING!!
CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA
Got so much space up in my empty head now
I'll fill it all up with dreams
CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA
Smiling away, away today, With an Ultra Z
And an Ai, Ai, Ai, Ai
SPARKING!!
Yeah, that's some impossible stuff there.

I've got to agree, I'm still trying to match that to the tune.

Well, it fits the tune perfectly, so... yeah..

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I think his problem is with how completely and utterly nonsensical the Head Cha-La lyrics are -- something I personally don't mind, but I imagine a lot of people would. Lyrics like "if I ever run into a dinosaur in polar ice, I wanna train him to balance on a ball" aren't exactly very normal.
...Okay, no. I love Head Cha-La as much as most of you, but seriously. There's no ultra-deep meaning to the song -- it's basically Kageyama (or whoever was writing the lyrics) on LSD. And that's fine and has a charm in its own way, but it doesn't have some sort of hidden deep meaning.penguintruth wrote:"CHA-LA HEAD CHA-LA" is a charming shonen spirit song that builds natural excitement for the show. Well, it's better than "If I ever find a dinosaur, I'll kill 'em all! Kill 'em all! Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I for one think Head Cha-La still makes more sense than We Gotta Power. I mean, "IPPAI OPPAI"? Seriously? Including random meaningless words in the song is one thing, but... neither of those words are meaningless. And one of them means "Boobs". By comparison, Head Cha-La's lyrics are silly, sure, but considering how the theme is often used as a theme-song for Goku, the silliness seems kinda appropriate.Puto wrote:I think his problem is with how completely and utterly nonsensical the Head Cha-La lyrics are -- something I personally don't mind, but I imagine a lot of people would. That's the weird thing...I always thought Cha-La-Head-Cha-La was dumb...but We Gotta Power was strangely charming in one of those "Cheesy Late 80s action cartoon songs" kinda way.

You do realise that Kageyama's English is an absolute atrocity, right?

Having listened to a rip of the Japanese track from the Blu-ray, I can now say with a relative amount of confidence that I think they used the Dragon Boxes's Japanese audio track -- audio quality seems to be about the same as the R1 Dragon Boxes. Very nice.

I wasn't expecting that at all. This is getting very interesting...better than the Dragon Boxes or no, I think we might be able to safely assume at this point that this Blu-Ray release is, at the very least, a huge leg up from the mess that was the Orange Bricks.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Really, that much was clear from the get-go. I have yet to see a single thing about this set that isn't at least on par with the Orange Boxes... Save for the lack of alternate angles, and the lower episode-count per set. But there was never really any doubt that this was better than those. As for the Dragon Boxes... I guess it could be said that they've both got their advantages over the other. But it seems to me that these BluRay-sets could sorta be considered like a Dragon Box for dub-fans, considering how most of the problems it seems to have are really exclusive to the Japanese version.TheBlackPaladin wrote:better than the Dragon Boxes or no, I think we might be able to safely assume at this point that this Blu-Ray release is, at the very least, a huge leg up from the mess that was the Orange Bricks.

From what I've seen, these new sets can certainly compete with the Dragon Boxes. But I'm not entirely convinced. And now that I'm on the verge of owning all the Dragon Boxes, it's sort of pointless to get these. Maybe if they had a new English dub like Kai's. But they don't.
I guess I could recommend them to others, though. Especially the folks who are going to miss out on the DBoxes.

I personally am pretty excited for this. DBZ on Blu-ray is pretty cool! Still, the screen shots do look really dark....

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
The ultimate point here is that there's something competent we can recommend to people that's not the Season Sets. The only real problems are that they'll take a couple years at least to complete, and folks who don't have Blu-Ray players. I'm one of them, which makes me glad for the DBoxes and Kai's being on DVD as well.penguintruth wrote:From what I've seen, these new sets can certainly compete with the Dragon Boxes. For me, now that the DBoxes are discontinued, this can be a good alternative.
