Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
It's interesting that the Kai footage has more noticeable jitter though it has less picture (in order to reduce jitter, you have to zoom in the screen). I wonder whether it is because of Qtec's ability or Toei's small budget.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Kai Vs 1.1

LOL at "16X9" in the box. Somebody's not doing their job right.

Isn't the cost of the remastering process the reason we're getting packs this relatively small?Daimo-Rukiri wrote:I'd say small budget, so makes you wonder how much dough funimations putting into this.
Didn't Marc say a couple pages back that Blu-Ray 4:3 is really 16:9 with bars on the sides?Puto wrote:LOL at "16X9" in the box. Somebody's not doing their job right.
Also, disc made in Mexico.

Well yeah, but in practice, the actual footage you're watching is going to be a 4:3 picture -- people don't usually count hard-borders as part of the picture when referencing the aspect ratio, which is why DVDs of theatrical movies often say they're 2.35:1 or whatever despite the picture actually being 720x480 with borders stretched to 16:9 still with borders.

No, it won't. They just aired a single commercial for a DBZ product.samuraix123 wrote:Yeah pretty muchMetalwario64 wrote:...That's the conclusion you jumped to just due to them airing a commercial for a Blu-Ray of the show?samuraix123 wrote:Wait CN is going to be airing Dragonball Z again?

Even on my low-res monitor, Level 1.1 is noticeably sharper, and has more footage.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Just to further the information and discussion, I did a manual calculation of the average video bitrate on episode 4 (just the episode piece, not counting the intro or outro, on the episode + the recap portion). Episode 4 has 21.76 Mbits/sec average bitrate for the video (just video, doesn't include overhead, or audio, etc...).MarcFBR wrote:Doing a scan of the first episode shows it to be a smidge under 22.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
DB DBox color corrections & DBox color corrections.

Well after telling myself over and over again not to get this, I did. In my eyes it looks just like the Ultimate Uncut Edition but much grainier.

Do you know how many times I have said ''eh I think I'll pass'' then I End up buying it lol
Every freaking time it never fails lol

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

It's probably a lot easier for me to "pass", here, because I don't even have a Blu-Ray player.
I don't think I'd swap my DBoxes for these even if I did, though. The DBoxes have much more nostalgia for me as someone who once collected old fansubs.

So has anybody compared this to the Dragon Boxes yet? And if anybody here is thinking of doing it, I suggest two separate screens, instead of one split screen.

Meh, just a sleek release for the fans of the funi dub who want everything to be as high-tech as possible.
Sabat's signature....

Good old DVD's on my ps2 with epic original Japanese audio and voice track. Aaahhhhh, and I'm in heaven

Ya, Sabat's signature is kinda eyerolling. I don't haven anything against the guy at all, I'm a fan actually, but it is a little wierd. I think it'd be cool if original and american voice actors signed it, but I'm picky I guess. I do wonder, and hope that it means we get one of those with each release, which makes me wonder what characters will be getting one. I know it seams logical to keep doing them for every release but it is funi...my goodness think if they actually complete the release all the way through Z, then GT and Dragonball. It'd be all in one format, same aspect ratio and high quality...and even little signed cards..-gasp-dprez wrote:Meh, just a sleek release for the fans of the funi dub who want everything to be as high-tech as possible.

It looks like we're getting around 18 releases according to the back of the box.
