Question: Does anyone know where to find...

Post by Thanos » Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:07 pm

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (US) for a decent price? Perhaps it's rare now, but the cheapest I'm able to find online is around $40 used... I'd really hate to spend more than $30 for the game, since I know it used to be available for around $20 used.

$35
Maybe you can trade some games in to knock the price down.

The game went out of print and somebody lost the rights to it, that's why the price jacked up recently.

I was considering getting it, seeing as I got Budokai 3 for 8 bucks. Maybe not now...
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I was thinking of getting Shin Budokai 1 or 2 for the PSP since I heard they're better than the console Budokai's. However I never got the chance to. It's relatively cheap too.

Well, the game going out of print isn't too surprising, as it's 4 years old.

Yes. I'm nearly positive I have it. And I'll sell it to you, if I can find it. It may not work, I don't know where my PS2 is. It should, though.

I don't have it. I'm sorry. I thought I did, but I actually was thinking of Budokai 3, which I do have.
If it makes you feel any better, I would have sold it to you for like 25 if I did have it.

The PAL version of Tenkaichi 3 for PS2 [sealed] on Amazon is quite cheap, I'm considering buying it, should I?

I've got DBZ Burst Limit [X360], Raging Blast [X360] and Super Dragon Ball Z [PS2], but Tenkaichi 3 does certainly look like the Ultimate Tenkaichi technically.

If you're from Europe, do it.

It's way better than any of those. Despite what most say, the 150+ character count isn't actually a series of clones. Most characters have their own combos, speed, animations, specials (of course), etc. I actually prefer the fighting system in the Sparking!/Tenkaichi series over Raging Blast. The effects, too, are pretty much perfect. The auras, energy attacks, etc. Quite identical to that of the anime, in fact. Point is, GET IT.

Yep, I am.

I've seen a couple of Tenkaichi 3 gameplay videos, and the sound effects were repetitively the same, though the gameplay looked really good.

The last Budokai Tenkaichi game I played on PS2 was Tenkaichi 2, way better than the first, the first the camera was annoying and the gameplay felt.. meh.

Question, can the repetitive sound effects be an issue to the player? (sound effects on Raging Blast / Burst Limit are perfectly fine to me)

Talking about PS2, I'll also need to buy a Memory Card and a PS2 controller. Damn you PS3 for not playing PS2 disc games. :?

Sorry for the tardiness in my response...

In any case, I would go with a resounding no--in fact, the sound effects are more diverse than in Sparking! NEO/Tenkaichi 2 or Burst Limit... Raging Blast 1 & 2 have a great diversity in terms of sounds for attacks. Most energy-based attacks sound (and look) just as they should... in terms of aesthetics, Sparking! METEOR/Tenkaichi 3 is spot-on[b/].

It's definitely the best Dragon Ball game ever in terms of authenticity, content, and "fandering" (a word I thought of that I just was disappointed to learn has already been invented)... which, if you're a fan, that's hardly a point of contention. I guess the only things that keep me from singing this game's praises are two things: 1, you might end up disappointed... I'd hate to be the catalyst for wasted money. And 2, you might be one of those people who prefer "deep" fighting games. While I wouldn't call Tenkaichi 3 deep by any means, it certainly exhibits a remarkable level of depth for a game with as much content as this game does (which, interesting fact, holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for most characters in a fighting game ever). :P

Great.

Even if it disappoints, I suppose I won't be annoyed because there are plenty of characters to play with, including Arale!

I'm so glad Arale-chan made her way to Budokai Tenkaichi 3, awesome! I must get this game. :D

If you want the best fan-service game, BT3 is perfect for your money. The gameplay is addicitive if shallow, but it feels Dragonballish.

There's also a HUGE range of characters (pretty much every DBZ character and a nice selection of DB and DBGT characters- certainly the best of any game thus far) and a very nice selection of arenas. The attacks of each character are also pretty cool- especially some of the ultimate attacks. And the characters don't all play 100% the same, they are just very, very similar.

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

If there was something I'd change on BT3, it'd be:

1. Music to the original Japanese DBZ BGM
2. Attack names to their original Japanese form (Like from the FUNi Dragon Box subtitles)

I kind of get confused at times while playing a Dragon Ball Z game because they feature the dubtitled attack names. But it won't ruin the experience for me, though, if it was on Xbox / Xbox 360 or even PS3 (if they allowed) I could turn on the custom soundtrack.

Superb! BT3 does very well seem to be the most complete Dragon Ball Z / GT game to exist. Dragon Ball Advanced Adventures, is amazing, I loved it!
