Episode #0278! VegettoEX and Hujio dive in to "Level 1.1", the first Blu-ray release of the non-Kai-ified DBZ TV series from FUNimation. Does the timing of this release make any sense, and is it a worthwhile purchase, espeically for fans of a series with so many sequential "definitive" versions? Listener thoughts on "Ultimate Tenkaichi", and a reminder about our Anime USA plans wrap up the episode! Referenced sites:
See some of you next weekend at Anime USA! As for next week on the show... will we be able to do the DBGT review in time before leaving...?!

Great review, guys.
Personally, I'm giving the Blu-rays a pass, as I'm content with my Dragon Boxes. However, with these sets, whenever there's a curious DBZ fan on YouTube who's looking to purchase the series and wants the music that they heard on Toonami back in the day, we dont have to suggest the orange bricks anymore.

They actually glorified "ALLY TO GOOD! NIGHTMARE TO YOU!"? They're really back to that? That's really disheartening. I'd have to black it out with a marker or something.
The Blu-Ray footage looks too dark to me. I prefer the Dragon Boxes. But the Blu-Rays do look pretty good.

Great podcast and review on the Blu-ray sets. I am going to pass on them though since there will be so many sets and I am happy with my Dragon Boxes.
I guess I should begin watching Dragon Ball GT to be prepared for when your GT Review podcast comes out.
Thank you for the nice surprise podcast on this Sunday evening (or now morning as of this post).

Great episode! Think I'll skip on the Blu-Rays, too.
XD It's great to be Chinese and be a big Journey of the West fan sometimes.

This was one of those podcast episodes that I wished was an actual live conversation going on right in front of me so that I could put my two cents in on various points.
For those wondering what they would sound like, it would mostly be me saying, "Y'know... I agree! Yeah," to everything being said. Also, "Uhh, y'know, I really like marathon mode!"

I'm likewise going to pass on the sets as a whole, but I may pick up bits and pieces here of my favorite portions of the series. I suppose that's an advantage to having less than 20 episodes per set... Perhaps FUNimation anticipated that?

No Jesus...
I think the best thing about these is that they're a great replacement for the old singles for crazy people who want dub music and a 4:3 picture (unless you're really crazy and want high-pitched Vegeta during the Freeza episodes). I'm totally fine with getting the Dragon Boxes for the whole show, but I'll have to get a couple of these someday for satisfying nostalgia. Or if they put some really awesome extras on a future set.
Also, I demand that daisex.com be made an erection of The All-Encompassing Dragonball Fansite, Daizenshuu EX.

Wow, great review. For me, I feel like these were what the bricks were supposed to be. I'm definitely entering this contest.

I picked up the first Blu-ray and I like it. This was finally the release of DBZ I wanted. The only series stuff I had before where VHS tapes. I love the fact that its finally in the right aspect (yes I know Dragon Box had it right to) and I prefer broadcast colors. I also really like having all the different audio tracks because I grew up watching DBZ mainly through Toonami, so having the English broadcast music track, I really like. Although I do like having the English with Japanese music too. I've been holding off for years on buying DBZ to see it get a good release that had everything I wanted in it.
