Gohan SSJ2 Comparison: Japanese Audio Vs. Ocean Dub Vs. FUNi

Post by dbboxkaifan » Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:50 pm

This comparison is solely to compare the Dragon Ball Z's Japanese Audio with: Ocean Dub and FUNimation's DBZ Dub.

I also plan on doing the same when Dragon Ball Z Kai Episode 92 comes out (where Gohan SSJ2 finally screams!).

Feel free to leave a comment section at YouTube/here. :D

Bye.

I don't mean to be nitpicky, but I think it would of been a better comparison if the Funimation scene retained it's own music, that way each version would be more different than each other other than just the scripts.

Still though, I have to say I prefer the Original and the Funimation versions for this scene. The Mega Man music for the Ocean dub scene just feels too heroic in a sense.

Gonstead, I could've used the US music that the FUNi DBZ Dub originally had but I didn't really like it and besides, without any BGM it actually sounds better and more intense.

Yeah, Ocean sounds heroic, but still a better music placement than FUNi's Music.

As much as Stephanie Nadolny sounded off-character, that scream was the best out of all of them for me.

I wtf'd myself when I read this "wow that song in the Japanese version is really lame" seriously? Lame?!

I don't get it. :?

FUNimation Z Dub of Gohan SSJ2 without the US music actually got my liking to it (it was silent/intense).

I'm not the biggest fan of Spirit vs Spirit either but the song is decent though.

Unmei No Hi ~ Tamashii Vs. Tamashii made Gohan SSJ2 an epic awesome DBZ moment, one of the best, too bad on Dragon Ball Kai it couldn't be used. :?

DBK's music placements are still great as alternatives.

My favorite scene in all of Dragon Ball... just EPIC! (the original of course)
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
