STOP SOPA NOW!

Post by Ringworm128 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 6:40 am

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcFLHLiM ... ture=g-all http://americancensorship.org/index.html#website YES I KNOW THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DB but in a way it does because if this gets though it will be the end of all our fandubs, our fanarts our parody's and many other things. Innocent people like Remix Gozar and KaiserNeko could go to prison for simply promoting the series. It could even mean the end of Daizenshuu EX! So I think this needs as much coverage as possible so that is why I am posting this on this site even though it has nothing to do with DB.

If this gets put into law, it's practically the end of the Internet.

No more fandubs, no more scanlations, no more gameplay videos, no more parodies like TFS and if your caught with such material, you can face up to 5 years in jail for each piece of copyrighted material.

And that's just a grain of sand in the ocean of potential trouble this brings.

But ultimately I have to ask myself "What is the true meaning of being perfect?" and the answer I came up with was nothing. Not one thing. The truth of the matter is I despise perfection! If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientist's agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection! That's the kind of creatures we are! We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable!"

WHAT!?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Think the constant protests across the globe are bad now...

Imagine what things would be like if they ruin the Internet?

One of these things are not like the other ones, not like the other ones.

Not only that! There is also a possibility that content will be block without much grounds due to it being against the interests of the forces behind this bill. Soon, the synonym for democracy will be money.

It should be locked for the lack of content and context in the first post.

Nevertheless, it's quite interesting how in Wikipedia page this is right on the beggining of the article:

"The techno-ignorance of Congress was on full display. Member after member admitted that they really didn’t have any idea what impact SOPA’s regulatory provisions would have on the DNS, online security, or much of anything else," said Adam Thierer, a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center.[17]

"This is just another case of Congress doing the bidding of powerful lobbyists -- in this case, Hollywood and the music industry, among others. It would be downright mundane if the legislation weren't so draconian and the rhetoric surrounding it weren't so transparently pandering," said a Fortune editorial.[18]

Personally I doesn't believe they really have power to put this on action, but the congress clearly doesn't have enough knowledge about how the Internet in general works either.

For what it's worth, guys, the general consensus going around right now is that there's no way this bill will pass because of how many people it has royally pissed off. Still, the fact that someone would even suggest this become a law is disturbing in and of itself.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Yeah, this is what I've been thinking as well. They'd be stupid to let this actually pass.

If this actualy pass, there will be a mass global mess, so I doubt it will happen. I hope it won't happen...

Like I mentioned, it appear there is a consensus over the ignorance of the congress about the Internet.

Also from the Wikipedia:

Open source software projects may shut down under this bill,[19] under a provision which the EFF believes to target Mozilla,[20] the browser used for about a quarter of all web searches.[21] Mozilla refused in early 2011 to pull the Mafiaafire add-on from its website, asking "Have any courts determined that the Mafiaafire add-on is unlawful or illegal in any way?"[22][23]

Prohibiting a browser just because of a third party add-on? That can only turn against themselves.

Messing with Mozilla is not a smart thing to do. Not to mention all other open source things, like Linux. If Linux got shut down, well, I don't even want to think about it.

I heard about this bill a while back, and I recall hearing that it's geared more against Megaupload than Let's Plays or Team Four Star. Does anyone actually have a link to the manuscript of the bill from which this website made its points? Because there's virtually nothing stopping me from taking this as sensationalized to whatever degree otherwise.

That said, given that no one in Congress is of the internet generation, piled on the fact that this is probably as vague and bloated a bill as just about anything else Washington puts out, I'd think it would be safe to say it's the lobbyists here. Sad thing is, anti-piracy measures are, in theory, something lobbyists should be well in their rights to request (Lobbying isn't inherently evil, get rid of it and the private sector loses its key communication with Washington). They just have no idea what they're doing.

Trying to gear this more towards DragonBall in hopes that it will not get locked. If this passes I wouldn't be able to make a video showing my collection with DragonBall music in the background(not that I've made one but I've been thinking about it). I have read about it but START EDIT:don't fully know how far it's rules go:END EDIT. I enjoy having dragonball in the background as I am doing other work like exercise and I am not always in front of a dvd player so ill just bring up a scene from youtube or megavideo. Would all of those snippets be taken down?

I don't know where that part of my sentence went
