Saw this, thought I'd post it for anyone who hasn't yet.

SOPA goes for House debate Dec. 15

Just now heard of this, reading up:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31921_3-57329 ... t-you-faq/

So it's a black list against foreign websites that openly target and infringe against USA people? I'm not completely understanding how this will destroy the internet on the scale that people are saying.

Smells like China in here...

Seriously, the (Totalitarian state) China does this right now, also the Arab world too. In China, no foreign web sites and the Muslim world is roughly the same thing. Instead they have their own sites so it doesn't infringe on the rights of the state.

I have a idea. Since its Hollywood and other company's who are supporting this bill then maybe we should go on a merchandise strike (refuse to purchase any DVDs or Music CDs etc until they back off.)

But a large majority of people will still buy. The folk who "go with the flow" who think everybody should just abide by the rules will still buy. Many people will feel it won't affect them in anyway but it will.

Unfortunately, that's not all it is at all. It can very much affect US based sites as well, and can have whole sites taken down for things a few users may have uploaded, completely ignoring the idea of DMCA and putting any website that allows users to upload and link to whatever they want at risk. That includes YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, image hosts, art sites, etc. Even Daizenshuu EX and Kanzentai could be at risk.

I'm sure these sites can do a better job of explaining it than I can:

Agree. USA citizens should avoid buying any of these to be fair.

Bussani's first link ends with another link to the actual text of the bill. Probably should throw that out there.

Yes. You should also write letters to them too, as it is also your business. You could tell them that this law could affect many if the sites you go to. I mean, if this law passes, Daizex could be shut down!

If this bill stops us (the U.S.) from seeing foreign sites, would that mean no more importing? And sites like Amazon JP and CDJapan won't be available anymore?

This law greatly impedes on our rights. I don't think it should, or will, pass.

I took an e-mail. In just a few hours more than 20,000 people have asked Senator Wyden to read their names from the floor of the Senate during his filibuster of Internet censorship. More than 1,000,000 people spoke out against Internet censorship. :D
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Only sites accused of copyright infringement or not doing enough to prevent their users from infringing copyrights will be blocked or shut down. The problem is that accusing a site of this would be ridiculously easy. Amazon JP and CDJapan would probably be okay, assuming they don't have any bootleg products for sale.

I signed like 2 of those. I thought the internet was the only place in the world i could truely express myself freely. If this law passes not only myself but everyone will lose a LOT of freedom.

Do whatever you guys can, as a Canadian I will be really angry if some lousy American politicians ruined the Internet. YouTube, Cinemassacre, That Guy with the Glasses, Team Four-Star, LK have all provided me with millions of times more entertainment than any TV channel has... ever. There is no Anime on TV anymore (well other than kid shows like beyblade), anything I want to watch i get on DVD or the Internet, so other than sports and video games, TV is useless to me. If this is passed, it is possible that everything I enjoy will be wiped out. If I wanted that, I'd move to China. Just because politicians and lobbyists have money doesn't mean they should get to the screw the rules!
