Dragon Ball Z Condensed

Post by Bee » Sun Nov 27, 2011 2:14 pm

I'm working on a project that is DBZ cut down to about 70 episodes.

Its probably going to be less dramatic, I'm cutting out ANYTHING that isn't important.

Here are a few examples of what I'm cutting out:

-Long Screams
-Reaction Shots
-A lot of simple punches
-Lines of dialogue that can be taken out and the conversation still makes sense

I'll upload clips soon so you can see what I mean.

Any thoughts?

All of Z in under 70 episodes? That sounds awesome! I am wondering, however, what will you do to, say, the reaction shots that actually are in the manga? And what about filler?

He said anything that isn't important, so I guess he's even cutting out manga material.

Well, what about filler? Like, the Garlic Jr. arc for example.

I will not do the Other World tournament, Garlic Jr., or any filler arcs. I also won't have the Bulma/Ginyu scenes. I have also trimmed down transformations. (Goku going SSJ only takes about 10 seconds now.)

i need to know how to remove music from Kai, though, as I will be using Kai footage. (Not on a Mac, and I don't have Sony Vegas.)

My first clip. Trunks killing Frieza. Again, only stuff that matters are in, even stuff that was in the manga that weren't important are cut out.

This was just quickly thrown together to show what this project will be like. I have about 12 sneak peeks stored on my computer. I just need to know how to rip musicless Kai episodes so I can put this together.

I look forward to seeing this. I can provide feedback on each episode if you're cool with that. These projects always excite me, as I love to see how the narrative keeps up in these sorts of things.

Best of luck, and I'd love a PM to each episode as you finish them.

If you don't even have the resources to do your own project, I think you might be in a little over your head.

Tons of people take this kind of stuff up, and I'd wager less than 1% of them actually do anything.

EDIT: In watching the Trunks clip alone, it's clear why the scenes were animated and directed the way they were, and how they just don't work at all when so heavily condensed. You have sound effects cut off all over the place, scene transitions that are jarring beyond comprehension, etc. It was rough enough in Kai as it was, but as the original creators, they at least had the liberty and capability to re-score, re-SFXize, re-voice, and re-animate where necessary to make it not like this. If you can't do these things, you're going to wind up with a project that's unwatchable.

Clips are pretty good. I love what you did with the Ginyu Force one, but I will say I don't like what you did with the Trunks one. It's okay, but I don't like what you did with cutting out the initial first slice. Another thing you could fix is at 0:04-0:05, you could have it so you could actually see Trunks and Cold turn their heads instead of having them magically rotate there. And then, at 0:23, you could have the full sound effect in there. But overall, I love the Ginyu Force one, and the Trunks one could use some improvement. Can't wait to see what this project has in store, and good luck! :D

Also, same with SpikeVegeta, I would love to get a PM of an episode as soon as you finish one, and I will watch it, as long is it's on Youtube, or some other big name streaming site and not say, a download or Megavideo, as I don't want to have to deal with popups.

And, about the BGM removal, I've seen many topics (3 last I remember) with multiple people giving examples on how to do it. Just takes a quick Google search.

I tried doing this with Dragon box 7. disk 4. One of the main issues I had was that the SFX was much lower than the voices. That, and there were some parts that messed up. To the point where you wouldn't hear any sound at all, later on in the video

I'll do another disk this weekend, and try a few variations to my method, but don't get your hopes up. This issue could either be for all Dragonbox sets, that one particular Dbox(Dbox7), or that particular disk.

An option(which is what I plan on doing with a project of mine): Would be to get rid of the music in the orange bricks, and transfer the file/track that has no bgm, to the footage of the dragonbox. And just sync the track(that has Sfx+ voices) to the Dbox footage. But that in itself, would just cost extra money. ( buying orange brick sets when you already have the Dbox)

Right now, there are only a few people who know how to rip music out of Dvd's. And either they haven't provided a long enough guide(so that any newbie could understand) , or they won't really answer you. I myself am still trying to see what the limits are for removing music out of dbz Dvd's.

The guide is on the 9th post of this topic. just for reference

EDIT: As far as having no Sony Vegas goes, .well if you REALLY do not want to get the trial of Vegas, then I can't help you. However,
Pm'ing this guy(who does his process a different way) would help.(saiyanprimal force)

You can also try following this guide. And Pm'ing him since he lurks.

I actually just need the episodes after "I Kill No More" since I don't own any after that and all I have are the Kai dvds and Season Sets 7 and 8.

I doubt you will get it. This forum is pretty big on anti-piracy, you'll have to buy the DVD's yourself.

Well, I won't need them for a while, so, yeah.

I'm also thinking about abandoning this project, school and stuff like that.

I may do a fandub of Kai sometime in the future, though.
