I have to admit, even with DNR the footage still looks pretty sharp and clear, it certainly looks better than the Kai and the Orange Bricks that's for sure.

They are way better than the Dragon Boxes in terms of colors and video sharpness.

Here's a random shot I upscaled in Gimp using Lanzcos3. It is not exactly sharp. It is a JPEG, but only to save my bandwidth, and it's a level 100 anyway. This is probably how he did it. Here.

The dragon box screen cap (previous page) is stretched because he most likely took the picture from his media player. The video file has a stored aspect ratio (SAR) of 720 x 480 which is 3:2. The reason its 4:3 when you watch it in the player is that the video file also contains the pixel aspect ratio (PAR) which is 8:9. The Display Aspect Ratio (DAR) is achieved by multiplying the SAR with the PAR.

DAR = SAR * PAR
DAR = (3/2) * (8/9) = 4:3

When you take the screen cap, it ignores the PAR and so you get a stretched image. It is a 12.5% stretch in the horizontal direction. In the case of the video with image comparisons, he would have had to have (if he took it from his media player) resized the dragon box image from 720 x 480 to 640 x 480, this would have affected quality if a bad resizer was used.

There are times when you don't need to explain the nitty gritty because it'll simply confuse people.

Aspect ratio is generally one of those.

DVD should only be displayed 4:3 or 16:9.

Yes there was too much information, but its better than not enough information right? Anyhow, its always possible that a different person read it and managed to learn something new that they didn't know before, or perhaps someone might have noticed I made an error in what I said and then I could have learnt something!

Of course. I mean, I did learn something today because of that earlier post, and that sort of stuff interests me, so I would prefer an answer like that over the "short version" when it comes to stuff like that.

Needless to say, I disagree with the reviewer's sentiment that "Sean Schemmel outclasses Masako Nozawa as Goku".

I've always had a problem with ANN's reviews in one way another, needless to say- each of their reviews always have a negative side on how there's already been previous releases which affects the overall score (Get over it, as if Dragon Ball is the only series with a lot of releases [Because they're totally gonna get it perfect the first time or two; that goes for just about any company, especially FUNi], I mean why is that even a con, the review should be based ON THE DVD ITSELF). And the dub almost always has a better score than the sub on their reviews (Even the Japanese mono outclasses the 5.1 stereo dub). I'm sure a number of people here or even on a low grade Dragon Ball website could review a DVD better (DVD, Blu-Ray, whatever).
