What's your favourite Z Kai Dragon Soul version?

Post by dbboxkaifan » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:49 am

There's six of them right now:
1. Dragon Soul - Brina Palencia
2. Dragon Soul - Greg Ayres (this guy kinda sounds like the Abridged Goku)
3. Dragon Soul - Justin Cook
4. Dragon Soul - Sean Schemmel
5. Dragon Soul - Sonny Strait
6. Dragon Soul - Vic Mignogna

Mine's are Justin Cook, Sonny Strait, Greg Ayres and Vic Mignogna, due to their voices and the way they pronounce.

I thought they were saying "feel the supreme" but it's actually "fearless and free", silly me. x)
Thanks.

I'm curious how Chris Sabat's Dragon Soul sounded if it existed. :P

Usually I'd just watch Dragon Ball with its original Japanese audio, but I've been enjoying the English dub a lot.

It does, actually...well, sort of. Someone asked him at a con, "I was just wondering why you, an actual trained singer,* haven't sung 'Dragon Soul'?" He responded, "It's because I'm a trained singer that I have not sung the song. I listened to it and knew from the start that it was out of my vocal range." He went on to say that he did, however, record his own version of "Dragon Soul" as a joke for his co-workers at FUNimation, in which he intentionally screwed the entire song up for comedic effect, doing things like swearing where there were originally no swear words and singing all of the lyrics in a heavy southern accent. I REALLY want to hear it, but I doubt we ever will.

*True, by the way. He was training to be an opera singer back in college, but ultimately didn't go through with it because opera singers have to be unbelievably protective of their voice, to the point where he found it annoying.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Schemmel's and Mignogna's are the only 2 that sound like natural singing, so those are my favorites, to me, everyone elses sound like fandubs.

Takayoshi Tanimoto obviously, but if I had to go with the English ones I'd say Greg Ayres or Vic Mignogna (is his name pronounced how it's spelled?). I dunno, the lyrics of this song are incredibly cheesy, even more so when you hear it sung in English, but hey, Dragon Ball is a cheesy show.

Sean Schemmel's is probably my favorite, with Vic Mignogna's in second. I like both, for different reasons. Sean's is styled more closely to the song, and I enjoyed how it was performed. Vic's is a bit different, but is more energy pumped to me (likely done that way to get the kids' attentions).

I'm assuming that he/she is referring to the one on Kai part 3.
